IKORODU WEST GRADUATES 305 PARTICIPANTS FROM ITS 4-WEEK INTENSIVE TRAINING ON SKILL ACQUISITION | Shakiru Seidu. "The needs to empower women of Ikorodu West is sacrosanct," Supervisor for WAPA, Jessica Enitan-Oba insists.
It was a new vista of life for 305 persons from Ikorodu West LCDA of Lagos State, seeking to be economically self-reliant. The 305 beneficiaries successfully completed the skills acquisition training of the Office of the Supervisory Councillor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Jessica Enitan-Oba, in alliance with Necessary Measures Against Poverty And Perversity (NEMPAP), while powered by the Council Chief, Princess Olajumoke Jumbo-Olamehin.
The participants were selected from the five Wards in Ikorodu West LCDA, and were trained in Make-up, Fashion design, Catering, Hair dressing, Shoe and bags making, Photography and Graphics/Printing in three different youth centres within the Council Area to ensure participants have easy access to the training centre.
While speaking with MegaXpression Community Magazine, the Council Chief, Princess Olajumoke Jumbo-Ademehin, said her plan is to ensure that at least 5000 women and youth of Ikorodu West LCDA were trained in various skills in the empowerment programme aimed at making them self-reliant and economically vibrant. "I believe that this programme will reduce our unemployment rates and add value to people's lives, especially the beneficiaries and their dependants," she said,
She encouraged the graduates to ensure they maximize the opportunities open to them through the training. She further encouraged the young ones to also take up useful skills that would make them contribute to the development of Ikorodu West and Lagos State at large.
The "graduation ceremony", which was held at the Council Secretariat, had in attendance members of the Executive council and Legislative Body, was a joyous event for the empowerment beneficiaries, their parents and well wishers. Now, armed with their certificates and the needed equipment to start making use of their acquired.
Also speaking with MegaXpression Community Magazine and other news men, Supervisory Councillor, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs Jessica Enitan-Oba revealed that the need to empower and develop young people, especially women in Ikorodu West LCDA prompted her partnership with NEMAP to make residents, especially Women economically independent.
”Going forward, we expect the beneficiaries to convert the skill acquired to wealth. Like the theme says, ”Get a skill, Be a Boss” that is the message we want to send to the society, ” she said.
Jessica further stated that through the exemplary effort of the Ikorodu West Chairman, Princess Olajumoke, some of the graduates benefited from the empowerment scheme carried out by the council recently.
”Some of them benefitted from the Empowerment scheme powered by the executive Chairman, Hon. Princess Jumoke Jimbo-Ademehin recently which further fulfil the purpose of the training to lift people out of poverty thus contributing significantly to the Sustainable Development Goal of ending poverty in the country.
”In view of this,, we expect the beneficiaries to as well train other people. Doing so will reduce the numbers of vulnerable Youths and Women in our society,” Jessica explained.
She thanked the Chairman, Ikorodu West for the laudable initiative, saying this unique gesture is uncommon.
