SAVE-A-GIRL INITIATIVE SUPPORTS LAGOS STATE #MASKUPLAGOS WITH DISTRIBUTION OF 1,000 FACEMASKS TO RESIDENTS OF IKORODU DIVISION. We must jointly fight against the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria, Comrade Comfort Olafare says.
Save-A-Girl initiative has again joined other well meaning Nigerians and the Government of Lagos State in rolling out anti- pandemic and relief efforts on COVID-19. The latest is its support of the Lagos State Government’s recently launched initiative #MaskUpLagos, to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
As part of its contributions, Save A Girl initiative made distribution of over 1,000 medical facemasks to the people of Ikorodu Division, with a commitment to join hands with the State government in putting an end to COVID-19 pandemic. The presentation of the facemasks was made on Saturday, April 2, 2020, at the Palace of Adeboruwa in Igbogbo, Lagos.
The Chief Executive Officer, Comrade Comfort Olafare, who led the distribution of the facemasks on behalf of the Save-A-Girl initiative, said to MegaXpression Community News that the initiative is all about nurturing girls for self actualization and it has been in existence for a while.
"Now, we realized that some of our ladies are not seeing the need for them to see their future, and to take it serious, they're only serious after their universities and going into marriage forgetting that they have a responsibility to take both in the community, Society, State or Country and even the whole world. So, we felt if we are striving hard to meet up all of these, we should also help some girls that are coming up to also be part of the success from our dear country," She said.
Comrade Olafare added, “The fight against the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria should be a collective effort. That is why Save A Girl initiative is proudly supporting the Lagos State Government’s initiatives. We hope to continue in a similar fashion”.
Also, Mr Lekan Biliami Oba, Coordinator, National Youth Council, Ikorodu Branch, and a Chairmanship Aspirant of National youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, commended the uncommon efforts of the founder of 'Save A Girl' initiative on behalf of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Ikorodu.
"This is one thing we have been preaching and saying loud and clear to all the youths that, beyond the criticism, we all must be able to take responsibility in our own little way to support the system. As young people we need to start learning the culture, contributing our own token in our own little way, so what the founder and the team of Safe the girl initiative are doing today is commendable and it is something that every young mind and citizens out there must emulate," he said.
Oba urged all to support the government in finding lasting solution to COVID-19 in Nigeria. "It is a welcome development that we have an NGO like Save the Girl initiative complimenting the effort of government by giving out over one thousand nose masks today and we at the Ikorodu level council we are here to show some solidarity and to witness this event," he added.
