The Lagos State Government has once again stressed the need for residents to strictly adhere to precautionary measures against COVID-19 infection transmission to prevent a recurrence of the situation that led to the lock down of the economy.
Stating that a resurgence of cases in Lagos may lead to the reversal of the strategically calculated measures put in place by the Government to open up the economy.
Speaking on effort being made by the State Government to sustain the gains that have been made to control the global pandemic in Lagos State, at Adeboruwa Palace Igbogbo, the Director, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Head of Ikorodu Divisional Office, Mr Richard Omolashe, explained that many countries and cities are experiencing a second and third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic with a resultant spike in the number of cases and fatalities, urging people of Ikorodu Division to keep to safety protocols by using the face mask, washing of hands regularly, ensuring social distancing and maintaining cleaning environment.
"Presently in Nigeria, our economic activity have reduced because we are already in recession and for another lockdown wave not to begin, that is why the government make it compulsory for us to campaign about the safety so that people will adhere to it," Omolashe said.
"I'm assuring you that the government will provide sanitizers and cleaner environment because they know the residents in the community are in need of it," he added.
Concerning the immunization, Omolashe noted that the vaccine will be available soon and will be distributed to the community in order to reduce the high rate of Covid'19 pandemic in Lagos State.
In his royal remarks, HRM Oba Abdul Semiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, applauded Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his proactive measures in combating COVID-19 pandemic, urging the people of his community to adhere strictly to the precautions.
The Monarch who was ably represented by the Odofin of Igbogbo, High Chief Tajudeen Alade Onasanya, urged the government to recognize the usefulness of the traditional religion, saying whenever we are celebrating our festival, aside seeing the masquerade as an entertainment and people are jubilating, the sweat coming out of the body signifies the removal of every sickness in the body.
"Now that the second wave of the lockdown will be coming up, we beseech the government to send more quality facemasks and hand sanitizers for the community and most especially for the market women and men, Odofin added.
The Babaloja General of Igbogbo Kingdom, Alhaji Chief Mukalia Onabanjo, equally thanked the government, stating that they have been informing the markets women and men about the compulsory use of facemask.
"We have imposed a law that anyone caught without wearing his/her nosemask will be fined for two thousand naira and five hundred naira to anyone that have the facemask and refuses to wear it. Likewise, we also informed them about cleaning the market.
