2027: REP. BABAJIMI BENSON SEEKS GRASSROOTS SUPPORT FOR APC RE-ELECTION, MEETS OVER 300 IGBOGBO/BAYEKU CDAs
The Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, MHR, has commenced grassroots consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, meeting with representatives of over 300 Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Igbogbo/ Bayeku LCDA.
The meeting, held at the Igbogbo/ Bayeku LCDA Secretariat, was aimed at mobilising grassroots support for the re-election of Rep. Benson and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Benson said his intention was to commence his campaign from the Community Development Councils, urging the grassroots leaders to take ownership and lead the mobilisation efforts across their respective communities.
Expressing concern over the voting statistics from the last election, Benson noted that only about 13,400 votes were recorded in Igbogbo/ Bayeku LCDA out of over 78,000 registered voters, describing the figure as unacceptable and calling for greater commitment towards voter mobilisation. He charged the CDAs to work harder towards increasing voter participation, stressing the need for Ikorodu Division to outperform other local governments in the forthcoming election.
Benson also recalled that the creation of Local Council Development Areas in 2003 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, brought government and development closer to the grassroots. He urged residents to reciprocate the impact of the administration with massive votes.
The federal lawmaker promised to make his campaign period impactful and engaging, with plans for a concert and mega empowerment programmes.
Ealier, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, passionately commended Benson for his remarkable infrastructural interventions, which he said have positively transformed communities across Ikorodu Division.
Aroyewun disclosed that additional projects facilitated by Benson, including a Federal Health Centre, additional school projects, the Agunfoye/Olumo Road, an ICT Centre and the Moreke Road, have been approved, alongside several projects already completed across Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.
The Council Chairman assured Benson that the people of Igbogbo/ Bayeku would demonstrate their appreciation through massive votes for him and other APC candidates in 2027, while charging the CDAs to rise to the task.
Also speaking, Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA) commended Benson for what he described as his unprecedented developmental strides, noting the gap between the over 78,000 registered voters and the 13,400 votes recorded during the last election.
He expressed optimism that Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA could deliver 50,000 votes in the next election, describing the target as achievable with adequate mobilisation and voter education.
The former Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and APC Chieftain in Ikorodu Division, Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya, also praised Benson for his developmental efforts, noting that more projects, including a cinema centre, food hub and additional road projects, were still expected across the federal constituency.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their contributions to development and urged politicians, traditional leaders, religious leaders and community development associations to reciprocate developmental interventions with their votes.
Chief Fuad Oki commended Rep. Benson for what he described as a performance that had not disappointed those who supported his emergence as a member of the House of Representatives. He charged the gathering to rally behind President Tinubu and urged the Yoruba people to maximise the opportunity presented by the coming political dispensation.
The Director-General of iCARE Foundation, Mayor Deen Sawoola, took participants through voter education, highlighting practical strategies for increasing voter registration, participation and turnout.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by community leaders and stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation towards ensuring increased voter participation and stronger electoral support for Rep. Benson, President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
