As part of efforts to boost food production, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has empowered 600 registered farmers in Ikorodu federal Constituency with 600 bags of fertilisers to enhance their production for the 2024 farming seasons.
The gesture which was facilitated by Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson MHR, and Supervisor for Agriculture, Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji Musbaudeen Alejo, held on Tuesday at Benson's Constituency Office, in Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
While addressing the registered farmers, Benson said the distribution is important to ensure food security and support the registered farmers in Ikorodu federal Constituency. He emphasized that the provision of these fertilizers would significantly enhance crop yield, thereby improving the livelihoods of local farmers and contributing to the overall economy of Nigeria.
Benson, who was ably represented by his Aides, said the fertiliser was only meant for the actual farmers and not 'portfolio farmers'. “President Tinubu is very serious for every farmer to benefit from its programmes. We are talking about the registered farmers and not portfolio farmers, he stated.
Supervisor for Agriculture, Ikorodu Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji Musbaudeen Alejo, commended President Tinubu and Rep. Babajimi Benson for bringing the distribution of 50kg fertiliser to each 600 farmers in Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
Alejo said the reason for this distribution is to empower the registered farmers in Ikorodu Division. "A bag of this fertilizer costs almost N45,000, so this support will enhance their crops’ germination,” he opined.
