2 PERSONS DEAD, 16 MISSING IN BOAT MISHAP IN IPAKAN JETTY, EGBIN, IKORODU. | Shakiru Seidu

Two persons died and sixteen others missing, following a boat mishap that occurred at the Ipakan Boat Jetty, Egbin in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The boat which is reported to have been en route Badore in Ajah to Egbin in Ikorodu with about 21 passengers on board allegedly capsized on Saturday night. The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident which occurred at about 11:00 pm on Saturday, said investigations reveal that the boat was flipped over by the heavy current. Three persons were, however, rescued and taken to hospital while the dead comprise a 40-year old woman and a yet-to-be-identified man who were found by the agency’s response team. Rescue and recovery efforts continue for the other missing passengers by officials of LASEMA, the state’s Waterways Agency (LASWA) and the Marine Police. Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday appointed Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan as the new Director General of the Lagos state Sports Commission. This followed the disengagement of the former DG, Babatunde Bank Anthony and appointed Bolowotan as the new DG. In a statement signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri Okunola, "the appointment is in line with the ongoing re-organisation of the State Public Service for efficient service delivery. The appointment is with immediate effect". Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, a graduate of Economics from Ahmadu Bello University is a brand expert and sports enthusiast. He sits on the board of Prime Signs. Sunday, June 16, 2019, was another memorable day in the history of Ikorodu, as the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) sworn-in another Executive, at the prestigious Ikorodu Town Hall Ikorodu. Olola Olusegun Iluyombo, who stood on behalf of Mr Lemmy Anibaba, the electoral Chairman, supervised the peaceful conduct of the Swearing-in ceremony.
