Over 500 residents of Offin-ile, Oreta and Bayeku in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA benefited from the Free health care programme of the Lawmaker representing Ward C3, Hon Alimi Nurudeen.
The programme tagged "Jigi Alimi" gave the beneficiaries the opportunity to be tested for various ailments ranging from Diabetes, Eye issues , Malaria, Prostrate cancer test amongst others even as free drugs and over 500 glasses were given to the people.
The programme which happens to be the brain child of Hon Alimi Nurudeen through which he reaches out to his people periodically also partnered with a NON governmental Organization, "Live Changers Foundation, LCF, to test and screen the patients and to create awareness and sensitize them on causes and effects of Clear Vision Failure.
With several doctors to screen the patients, it was a time for men and women, old and young in Ward C3 to access free health care without inhibition.
Hon Alimi Nurudeen, Chairman Councillors Forum, Lagos State and President of Nigeria Councillors Forum, said to MegaXpression Community Magazine that "there are some salient killers health wise and we need to address it. The feedback I got today shows that we have a lot of people walking on our street that are almost walking corpses. The reason is that people. don't bother to check their vitals, they don't know what their blood pressure is or whether they have diabetes or any other disease, "he said.
"This is not the first time we are doing this and we just feel it is very necessary to sensitize and galvanize support for this programme for our people to realize that they must check themselves from time to time, its only a useless community that will not care for those who are sick, the more able people we have, the better for the community, even the better for the government," Alimi added.
The beneficiaries of this health programme could not hide their joy as they bared their minds on the grate impact the health programme has in their lives.
Raji Rasaki says he came for eye test, he said "this is not the first time I am benefiting from this programme, the councillor has really done well for his people, at this time when everything is hard for the assessment, where will I get free consultation for my eyes? Now I have come here and after the test, they have given me my glasses, I am so happy "he exclaimed.
Mrs Ruth Abayomi also came to see the ophthalmologist, she says she was diagnosed of having cataracts and the NGO has assured that a surgery will be carried out on her.
She says "I am so grateful for this wonderful gesture, it shows that Hon Alimi have the interest of His people in mind. Doing a free medical check is a very good project for this community. Now I have been promised that cataract will be taken care of, I am so happy, she said.
