9TH NASS INAUGURATION: APC SWEEPS MAJORITY VOTES IN SENATE, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. | Shakiru Seidu. Sen. Ahmad Lawan, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila emerge Senate President, Speaker of Upper and Lower Chambers respectively.

The Senator representing Yobe North at the upper legislative chamber, Ahmad Lawan, has emerged the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.

MegaXpression Community Magazine reports that Lawan defeated his main challenger and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, after the counting of the ballot by the clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

Lawan scored 79 votes from a total of 107 votes, while Udume pulled 28 votes, with no invalid vote.
In the same vein, Sen Ovie Omo-Agege emerged Deputy Senate President, by scoring 68 votes to defeat Sen Ekweremadu of PDP, who scored 37 votes.

At the lower Chamber, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the All Progressives Congress preferred candidate, has been elected the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He defeated the endorsed candidate of People’s Democratic Party, Hon Umar Bago.

Gbajabiamila polled 281 votes from a total of 358 votes, while Bago scored 76 votes, with one invalid vote.

Gbajabiamila was the APC congress Majority Leader and the House Leader of 8th House of Representatives. He represents Surulere Federal Constituency of Lagos State. 

Hon Idris Wase also emerged Deputy Speaker unopposed.

Former Minister and GAC member, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe , has denied reports claiming he endorsed Hon.
