VACANT SENATORIAL SEAT: IKORODU DIVISION SHOULD NO LONGER BE DENIED OF ITS DESERVED RIGHT. By Shakiru Seidu. July 15, 2020.

Following the demise of Senator Adebayo Oshinowo, popularly called 'Pepperito', the late Senator representing Lagos East senatorial district at the upper chamber of the National Assembly which left the position to be vacant and in view of the various political calculations and  permutations in filling the vacant position for the production of a viable / vibrant successor.

It is tenable, authoritative and highly admissible that in consideration of a candidate for this position, Ikorodu Division should be given the slot. It will be recalled that the last time Ikorodu indigene occupied this position was over two decades ago during the regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as the President of Nigeria with Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe dully sponsored by his then political party (Alliance for Democracy). Ever since then, Ikorodu Division has not been given the privilege.

It is worthy of note that, this wonderful Division has not been considered for governorship position in Lagos State despite our labour, commitment, loyalty, viability, ruggedness, sacrifice and endurance politically.

It is also correct to ascert that Ikorodu has remained relevant in the politics of Lagos State and the country at large as we continue to remain loyal to the progressives in all ramifications.

The turnout of our people to vote at  every election, is a testament of the contributions of our sons and daughters in their various field, politically and professionally cannot be over enumerated.

Ikorodu Division has produced persons of high political pedigree, intimidating credentials and gigantic intellectual profiles who have served creditably well before and can as well represent Lagos East Senatorial District at the upper chamber of National Assembly.

In no particular order, among which are:

1. Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, former Clerk, Lagos State House of Assembly and Chairman IKODASS. He contested to represent Lagos East at the Senate in the last general election.

2. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission. She has been a good ambassador of the Country and she's doing wonderfully well.

3. Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, member of Lagos Seventh Assembly and former Ag. Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture. She has been very reliable, trustworthy and efficient in the politics of Lagos and beyond.

4. Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, a two term Commissioner in Lagos State and Lagos East Senatorial APC Vice Chairman. He is a season politician, tested, trusted with pragmatic political experience.

5. Hon. Saheed Hassan Adefarasin, member fifth and sixth Assemblies and for Chairman, Ijede LCDA.

6. Hon. Sunmi Odesanya, member fifth Assembly and former Commissioner at the Lagos State House of Assembly Commission.

7. Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, for Head of Service, Lagos State and member of APC Apex body, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.

However, at this period of time, that the country and the world are plague with Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in loss of job, poverty, insecurity, bad road network, I want to appeal passionately to the national leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other reputable members of Governor's Advisory Council, G.A.C, to please consider Ikorodu Division this time around.

We truly deserved a voice and a reliable representative.

To be continued...
