Lagos State University International School, Ojo, was on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, had its end of Session Party/Prize giving ceremony. The event which took place at Faculty of Education, LASU, saw the likes of Professors among other scholars.
Prof. R.O. Okuneye, was the first to offer welcome address, where he talked about so many plans the LASUIS has to develop in order to bring forth the potentials in the students. He assured the parents that their children will pass out in flying colour. "LASU is the best", he affirmed.
Mr Taiwo Odumbo, the School Principal and the host, in his eloquent address, expressed joy and happiness towards the contributions of the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, whose efforts and supports towards the success of LASUIS can never be under estimated. Same to the management of LASU, the Chairman, Lagos State University International School Board, Professor R.O. Okuneye, Members of LASUIS and the entire LASU Community for their undisguised support for the school.
To his Staff, Odumbo said, "we owe tons of gratitude to my Staff. I must confess that the school is blessed with a set of wonderful staff, both teaching and non-teaching. Their commitment and dedication to duties deserves commendation."
He further said, "so far, we have not presented our students, either junior or senior, for any of the external examinations. But we have ensured that all the internal examinations they have taken since the commencement of school have measured to the standards of the external examination bodies.
"We hope our parents can also testify to this. The levels of difficulty and complexity, marking, grading and allocation of scores are conscientiously monitored to build and sustain quality assurance. With this level of assessment sincerity, it is hoped that the students' results in their internal examinations could be conveniently used to predict their performances in the external examinations.
"In this age of globalisation, competition is fast losing its place to collaboration in the scheme of things. Equally, mobile learning is gaining serious currency, making the erstwhile e-learning obsolete. To keep pace with this inevitable development, Lagos State University International School has forged different collaborative partnerships with education industries both within and outside Nigeria," the Principal said.
MegaXpression Magazine report that the Chairman of the day, Hon Lanre Ogunyemi of Lagos State House of Assembly, in his opening speech, congratulated the staff and management of the school. "This event is an apt one because it reflects stock taking and reward for hard work and good performance. To the winners, I say kudos and congratulations.
I charge the school management to continue to strive for excellence that the entire LASU academic community is now admired for." The legislator also enjoined the Parents to continue to be confident of their capability to give sound, well rounded academic and moral upbringing to their wards.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, who was ably represented by Prof. Olaniyonu, said LASU International School has set incomparable standard as far as Nigeria secondary education is concerned: a serene environment, manageable class size, appropriate teacher/student ratio and well-secured environment. "No wonder the adjective 'International' is added to the name of school. Without mincing words, the school has lived up to international standard by all the educational planning criteria," he added.
To the School Management and Board, the VC said their indefatigable efforts are seeing in the quality of their student - polished spoken English, a display of well-mannered character, easy-going attitude among several other attributes that define good citizens.
"How I wish the future leaders of Nigeria will be products of Lasu International School where they will rule with fairness, equity, justice and establishing a corrupt-free society. I can foresee this, going by the standards set by the school management team, teaching and non-teaching staff," he said.
Dr Kola Christwealth and Mayor Deen Sanwoola, blessed the programme with robust and educating lectures. Dr. Christwealth was the first to approach the podium. According him, he made it known, the importance of knowledge in Nigeria. He said, "knowledge makes you adaptable to your environment. Knowledge makes you smart. Knowledge earns you extra income. Knowledge places you head and shoulder above your mates. Knowledge makes you work smarter, develop superior plans and strategies; knowledge makes you think clearer, live healthier and better."
He further explained how knowledge can take someone out of poverty. "Barrack Obama lost his father at a tender age. Olusegun Obasanjo, as a child and young boy was an archetype of poverty. These two did not only have education, they sought for knowledge. Their quest for knowledge led them to unimaginable opportunities, so much that knowledge has made them global icons," he said.
The second lecture that was taken by Mayor Deen Sanwoola, a political strategist and Director General of Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR, saw him pinpointed and enunciated to both the students and teachers on how to use technology to achieve excellence in Education. His topic was "Harnessing ICT Resources to Achieve Excellence in Quality Education.
Deen said the world is evolving, students are connected but not making connections, in the sense that, students have access to internet to search valuable information for better learning but quite unfortunate that they don't use it or rather they use it for the wrong purpose. He expressed the numerous use of ICT to make education easier.
"The essence of Education is not to attain failure" he said while he was explaining that the students and teachers inclusive should never give in attaining success, and urged them not to relent. He ended his speech recommending useful sites, apps and devices that could aid students in learning. He urged conclusively that technology should not be used wrongly.
When it's time to give out various awards, the overall best student in JS1 goes to Adeleye Roqeebat, Disu Ibukunoluwa got the one of JS2, while SS1 and SS2 went to Olotu Osasuyi and Ogunsami Sophie respectively. The School Orator, Junior, won by Disu Ibukunoluwa, while the Senior won by Ogunsami Sophie. School academic ambassador, junior, taken by Owoade Oreoluwa while the senior category won by Olayisoye Al-Ameen. The Outstanding Staff of the Session award was also collected Mr Adegbindin Abdul Hafeez (Mathematics teacher).
