IKORODU STANDS STILL FOR ONE MILLION-MAN MARCH, AS ABIRU, SHOTOBI, OTHERS, URGE RESIDENTS TO COLLECT THEIR PVC. | Shakiru Seidu. "Your PVC is the VISA to good governance," Otunba Ganiu Abiru reveals.
The former Clerk, Lagos State House of Assembly and one of the aspirants, contesting for Senate to represent Lagos East Senatorial District, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, popularly known as GOA, members of GOA for Senate 2019 movement, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, APC East senatorial Vice Chairman, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, political groups, CDCs, Market men and women, Artisans and lots of others were all out in large number to enjoin residents of Ikorodu Division to actively carry out their civic duties by collecting their permanent voters card (PVC) towards the 2019 general election.
The one million-man march which kicked off from ferry terminal, Ipakodo, was said that the ideology is to increase PVC collection among registered voters in Ikorodu Division.
In a brief interview, the Convener of the one million-man march, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, GOA, told Shakiru Seidu of MegaXpression Magazine, that the march is meant to encourage the residents of Ikorodu Division to obtain their PVC.
"You will agree with me that PVC is the VISA which you can use to elect credible candidates during election. Unofficially we have the population of over 5million in Ikorodu Division and if we are able to get about 3 to 4 million, we will be doing well because, the use is about 50-57% of the population, then, I think we have done alot of work and I'm sure that at the end of the day, there is going to be a massive improvement from Ikorodu Division.
"We also work with the INEC to view the trauma that some people are going through in obtaining their PVC.
PVC is for the election, it is called Permanent Voters Card and that is the only document that can enable you to vote for the candidate of your choice. Like we are saying, you don't vote or campaign on social media, you vote with your voters card and that is why we are encouraging people of Ikorodu Division to please visit the nearest INEC office and get registered." Abiru explained.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, while giving his royal blessings, also key into the vision and enjoined residents of Ikorodu Division to take the collection of PVC more seriously. "It is your civic right and power to choose credible people into office in 2019 elections", he added.
The APC Vice Chairman, East senatorial, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, assured that Ikorodu will work together on cultivating the trust of its residents in the grassroots and will ensure the Division come out in flying colors in 2019 election.
While speaking with one of the organisers, Dr. Fatai Abiodun-Abatan, foundly called 'Baresi', also revealed to MegaXpression Magazine that GOA for Senate 2019 is meant to show a new direction on how politics should be played in our society.
“We are focused on increasing collection of permanent voter cards in the short term and also to make Ikorodu Division get best results in 2019 general elections." Dr. Baresi explained.
The DG of iCARE foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, in his eloquent remarks said the mission is to redefine Nigerian politics by building a formidable grassroots base, ready to challenge for elections in the medium term.
“The movement is a gradualist approach to working the grassroots, enabling leaders and the kind of politics that delivers economic empowerment for the citizens, he added.
From ferry terminal, Ipakodo, the crowd worked through Ojogbe Ikorodu, paid homage at Ayangburen Palace before going to Ikorodu garage and finally ended the one million-man march at Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu, while the awareness vehicles moved round Igbogbo, Ijede and Imota communities.
