LAGOS SPORTS COMMISSION BOARD MEMBERS INSPECT SPORTING FACILITIES IN IKORODU, REITERATES SANWO-OLU'S PASSION FOR SPORTS DEVELOPMENT. ...The visit is aimed at auditing sporting facilities in Ikorodu Division, Dr. Fatai-Abatan reveals.

Members of the Lagos State Sports Commission Board, were on Thursday visited Ikorodu on an inspection tour to audit, determine the Sporting facilities situated across Ikorodu Division.

The team which was led by Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, representative of Ikorodu Division in the Commission, also includes Mr Lanre Saheed, Badagry Division, Mr Shina Ogundimu, Lagos Island Division, Mrs Bose Kaffo, lkeja Division, Mr Lanre Olowu, Epe Division, Mrs Olufunke Olu-Young, Representative of Ministry of Education, Mrs Biola Lawal, Chairman Sports Association, Mr Damilare Orimoloye, Youth Representative, Mr Bolaji Pearce, Board Secretary and Kayode Mobee Director sport facility.

While speaking with MegaXpression Media, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, said the basic reason why they're in Ikorodu is to do an audit and check the list of sporting facilities in the Division, saying that the team has equally visited Lagos Island Division and saw numbers of sporting facilities there.

"Today we are in Ikorodu because there is a dirt of sporting facilities in Ikorodu, so the essence of been here is to observe and take note of what we see, so that we can make recommendations with the Governor Sanwo-Olu in terms of areas that requires sporting facilitates in the State.

"In terms of changes and project execution in the area of sports development, the residents of Ikorodu should recall that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is committed to sustaining to Sports in the State and one of its cardinal principle under the TEAM Agenda is sports sustainability and that have explained the more reason in ensuring all areas of the State especially in Ikorodu Division has adequate sports facilities," Dr. Fatai-Abatan said.

He revealed that the Igbogbo Sports Stadium had been approved for construction and it's going to have a state of the act sporting facilitates in terms of the soccer, volleyball pitch, athletic pitch and other sporting and vocational facilities. "In the next one to two years we are expecting that the project should be delivered to the Division," he added.

Fatai-Abatan further reiterated the Commission’s passion for sporting engagements amongst children, suggesting that the Ita-Elewa mini sports center should be mainly for under 15 at maximum, in order to discover talents and promote sports development in Ikorodu and Lagos State at large.

The Team later proceeded to the dilapidated mini-stadium at the Ipakan community in Ijede LCDA, where the facility Manager of the stadium explained problem facing the infrastructure, amongst which are insecurity and lack of officials.

Mr S.G Quadri, who represented Ijede Council Chairman, was urged to ensure the clearing of the weeds within and outside the Facility to give it a meaningful look before proper commencement of work. Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA and Imota LCDA are other Areas in Ikorodu Division that have lands for siting stadiums that is believed will encourage growth and development of youth and eliminate social vices in the society.
