AYANGBUREN OF IKORODU CHARGES CORPS MEMBERS TO USE NYSC TO BUILD NIGERIA. | Shakiru Seidu. ...Urges them to remain focused, correct past leaders' mistakes.

His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, has charged the corps members to take advantage of the various NYSC platforms to build themselves and the Nation. The Adegorushen V stated this while the corps members visited his Palace in Ikorodu.
Oba Shotobi urged the corps members to take any of the skills from the numerous ones taught in the camp and during the service year for the growth and development of Nigeria, MegaXpression Media reports.
"I most confessed with you that the purpose and essence of the NYSC Scheme when it was established in 1973 was to form unity among Nigerians, but the mission and vision had be defeated. When it was originally established, there was enough glamour but now, the political class are not making the environment conducive for the people to travel freely across Nigeria due to security challenges," Oba Shotobi said.
The Ayangburen further stated, "you have witnessed some of our cultures and tradition, some of you came when we are celebrating Agemo festival at the Ajino market square. All this activities will cool down your memory lane and you can't learn nor read about it in the school but you have come to the environment where it is being practiced and you have seen it physically to compare with culture in your domain.
The Monarch also urged the Corps not to bury their talents and keep their focus, saying people will discover the skills and may put it to best use. "Recently, we have some clubs from overseas that send request for us to send some names to them that they want to empowered them, which they did. So if you have your name listed in the Palace, you may be opportuned to be one of the lucky ones," Oba Shotobi added.
"On this note, I want to congratulate you and wish you the very best when you get outside there, because what you have demonstrated here today shows that we need unity in Nigeria and we should not look down on the activities of our past heroes. They have done their best but their best is not favourable to the youths of nowadays, but Nigeria is going to survive, Oba Shotobi concluded.
Earlier, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Otunba (Sir) Ayodele Elesho, congratulated the Corps members for finding it necessary to visit the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, and their time, energy, resources and knowledge wisely for the betterment of the society and our nation.
"The purpose of this gathering is for the corps to know more of Ikorodu culture. You have been here about one year to interact with the people of Ikorodu, to know how we accommodate people, visitors and external people.
"I know you all came from various universities and Polytechnics across the country and various fields of education. I want you to continue doing something tangible with your time because time is not waiting for anyone.
So in whatever area you find yourself, make the best use of it. Everyone of you must look outside the box, think wisely and go beyond the scope of your area of specialization and see how you can make the best use of the opportunity giving to you", Elesho advised.
"You have talked on the importance of our unity as a Nation through your cultural display, we need to re-oriente ourselves, particularly the elderly ones, so that we can have lasting peace and unity in Nigeria.
"Our major problem as a country is lack of unity. If the problem of unity can be resolved amicably, there would be progress, advancement, the economy will boost, relationship will improve, everything will work out for our good, their will be no more unemployment and things will go on right in this country.
"Our generation is almost wasted, some of us have wasted so much time and energy and we couldn't achieve much but you the young ones still have the world ahead of you, so you should make the best use of it. You should also make use of what you have preached here today and embrace the importance of unity and the reasons to work together and move together as one country", Elesho added.
Also, the Chairman of IKODASS, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, said "it doesn't matter your stepping stone or what you studied but it is the skill itself if you want to move forward, so don't take it for granted because entertainment is a great skill that can take you to the lime light and expose you to activate the best in you to the world.
"We need to engage them positively and that is the demonstration of what we have in Ikorodu today, changing the narrative and bringing the younger people closer to us so that they know actually what is going on," Erogbogbo stated.
The President of CDS drama Group, Ikorodu branch and graduate of University of Lagos, Adio Tomike Sandra, expressed her joy for visiting the Palace of Ayangburen of Ikorodu, stating that Oba Shotobi had always been so committed when it comes to youth development.
