The Ayangburen Palace, Ikorodu, Lagos, was on Wednesday played host to the official unveiling of 2021 Logo, for another glamorous edition of the Oba Kabir Shotobi Independence Day Mini Marathon Competition, scheduled to hold as usual on the Nigeria Independence Day.
The competition which has being in existence since 2015, was initiated by the Lagos Majority Leader, representing Ikorodu Constituency 1, and the Opomulero of Ikorodu Kingdom, Hon Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade, and participants were cut across Ikorodu Division.
According to the erudite lawmaker, Hon. Agunbiade, while speaking with MegaXpression Media, "When we started this programme in 2015, the participants were 92. In 2016 the number of participants increased to 154 while in 2017, it's increases to 259 participants. In 2018 the number of participants then increases to 269, while in 2019, we increased it to 446 participants.
"The programme is for children within the age range of 10 -16, being the maximum to comply with international standard for Mini Marathon and it's going to be packaged with much more fun fair.

"This year's edition will take place because we have gotten the permission of the Ministry of Education and as usual, we are going to make sure that we protect the children. We will not because of Sport exposed them to unpleasant situation, that is why we usually conduct test and also test their blood pressure before going to the field.
"Presently, we have given seven hundred and fifty (750) forms, knowingfully well that all of them will not qualify because some will be dropped on health ground, to ensure that those that will participate in the race are those that are fit and health wise proper.
"We already also have two giants trophies which is donated by the Tutor General of District 2, Mrs Anike Adekoye, because of what she had heard about the programme and being the lover of children. We still expect more good things to come and the turn out of this year will be higher than that of the previous years", Agunbiade stated.
He further explained his satisfaction towards the purpose for which he has initiated the Mini Marathon, the purpose he said is to commemorate Nigeria Independence every year and to celebrate HRM. Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, who loves the youth and community development.
"Ever since we started seven years ago, Ikorodu people are already in expectant in sharing the victory and encouraging the children in running the marathon race. The awareness have been created in Ikorodu and the people of Ikorodu have adopted it as a programme for Independence.
"We have equally created a healthy competition among the schools in Ikorodu Division. The child that came first in the 2019 edition in the male category was from Imota, while the one for female category is from Ijede LCDA.
"This has brought together the Division for healthy rivalry. It has exposed them to the grips of the State Sports Commission, which is already managing them properly, and we are happy that we have discovered them as talents and we are nursing the talents.
"We thank God that the first winner of the programme is now in Texas on scholarship by the State government, we have other person who is now into international marathon," Agunbiade explained.
In his royal remarks, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu said, the organizers of this programme has deemed it fit to organize it for over seven years and it has been successful, knowingfully well that this year's edition will be more fantastic.
"My message to the students is that, all work no play makes jack a dull boy, and we have heard about those that has participated in the past, they have gained both State and federal Scholarships and now studying overseas," Oba Shotobi said.
Affigbo Esther C. Former Students of Luwasa Senior High School First Position in 2017/2018 edition, Akanbi Muslimot Luwasa Senior High School Ijede first position female 2019 edition and Alloy Ifeanyi John a student of Imota Community Senior Grammar School First position male category were all present at the official unveiling.
Other notable dignities in attendance were His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba David Kayode Raji, Eweye of Isiwu, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Agbaakin of Ikorodu, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, former Chairman IKODASS, Chief Sulaimon Ogidi and other traditional Chiefs.
