House of Representatives Committee Members on Defence, on Tuesday, interrogated the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd.), and the Commandant of the Nigeria Defence Academy, Major General Ibrahim Yusuf, behind closed doors, after receiving the report of the August 24, 2021 attack by bandits on the NDA in Kaduna State.
In the incident, two army officers were said to be killed, while another was abducted when bandits attacked the military institution, located in the northwestern state.
The Defence Minister was also said to have briefed the lawmakers on the agreement between the Nigerian government and the Russian Federation on the fight against banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and all other vices and also its implications on national security, noting that efforts were in top gear to rescue the abducted officer and ensure such an incident never occurs again.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson, said the report would shed more light on the incident as well as the measures being put in place to deter another occurrence.
"After frank discussion with the Commandant, we were assured that the unfortunate incident will never happen again, with a renewed and concerted effort at ensuring that the NDA, military formations and Nigerians are safe.
"We are confident that the efforts of intelligent agencies to nip the perpetrators in the bud is in top gear and would certainly yield the desired result", Rep. Benson said in a brief made available to MegaXpression Media.
