REP. JIMI BENSON CONTINUES JOB DRIVE, SECURES PLACEMENT FOR 22 CONSTITUENTS. ...Reaffirms Commitment to Transparent Opportunities.
The Chairman House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, MHR, has once again demonstrated his commitment to youth empowerment by securing employments for 22 Constituents from his constituency.
Rep. Benson, who represents the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, presented the employment letter to the Beneficiaries during a brief ceremony, which reflected a structured and transparent selection process that emphasised merit, fairness, and inclusivity, at his Constituency Office in Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos, on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Of the 22 beneficiaries, 20 emerged through the icarejobs.ng platform - an initiative of the Jimi Benson iCare Foundation, designed to create a database of qualified youths within the constituency for job-matching opportunities as they arise. The platform has continued to serve as a credible channel for connecting job seekers with employment prospects facilitated through strategic engagements.
The remaining two beneficiaries were selected from a pool of five youths who were randomly chosen during the October 19, 2025, edition of the Apo Aanu Food Distribution programme, in a surprise gesture that underscored a commitment to inclusivity and spontaneous empowerment.
The beneficiaries, drawn from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, have now been placed across different Federal Government agencies, marking a significant milestone in their career journeys.
A key highlight of the exercise was the strong representation of female beneficiaries, a reflection of deliberate efforts to promote gender inclusion and provide equitable access to opportunities for women within the constituency.
Equally noteworthy was the absence of indigeneship considerations in the selection process. Beneficiaries were chosen based on their connection to Ikorodu Federal Constituency rather than ancestral origin, reinforcing a broader and more inclusive definition of community representation.
Speaking during the presentation, Rep. Benson attributed the employment opportunities to the Renewed Hope agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his role was to facilitate access for constituents.
“I am not the one giving these jobs,” he stated. “These opportunities are a product of the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, who has made a firm commitment to expanding opportunities for young Nigerians. What we are doing is ensuring that our people are not left behind in accessing these opportunities.”
In his remarks, the Director-General of the Jimi Benson iCare Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, commended the transparency of the process, emphasising that all successful beneficiaries went through the same application channel.
He noted that the integrity of the icarejob.ng platform ensured that no beneficiary could attribute their selection to personal patronage, describing the outcome as a testament to a system that rewards merit.
The beneficiaries, in their responses, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Rep. Benson for the opportunity, while pledging to uphold the values of diligence, professionalism, and service to the nation in their respective roles.
The ceremony was attended by notable stakeholders, including Mrs. Azeezat Apanisile, the First Lady of Ikorodu North LCDA, whose presence added significance to the occasion.
Observers have described the initiative as a model for effective representation, demonstrating how transparent systems and strategic facilitation can bridge the gap between government opportunities and constituents.
