170 IKORODU PUBLIC OFFICERS COMPLETE LEADERSHIP TRAINING. ...As Deen Sanwoola challenges leaders to serve with purpose, build legacy beyond office.
The three-day Leadership Development Seminar for about 170 Political Office Holders across the six Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of Ikorodu Division ended on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with participants challenged to embrace purposeful leadership, responsible governance and service beyond political office.
The intensive programme brought together Vice Chairmen, Councillors, Secretaries to Local Governments, Chiefs of Staff, Supervisors and Special Advisers for a refreshing learning experience focused on the realities and responsibilities of public leadership.
With the theme “Serving Within Mandate,” the seminar provided participants with practical knowledge on leadership, managing expectations, decision-making, conflict resolution, teamwork, personal discipline, transitional and transformational leadership, as well as preparing for life after public office.
One of the major highlights was the engaging and practical sessions led by the DG of iCARE Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, whose real-life examples and thought-provoking insights encouraged participants to look beyond the temporary privileges of political office and concentrate on the impact, values and legacy they leave behind.
The training also emphasised that political office is a period of service and responsibility, requiring discipline, humility, accountability and the ability to work with others for the advancement of the people.
For Shakiru Moritan Seidu (SMS), Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, the seminar was a valuable opportunity for personal reflection, professional development and renewed commitment to public service.
He described the experience as an eye-opening leadership journey, noting that continuous learning remains essential for anyone entrusted with the responsibility of serving the people.
According to him, the greatest reward of public office is not the position itself, but the positive difference made in the lives of the people and the legacy that remains after leaving office.
Other participants also described the programme as insightful, practical and timely, particularly because it provided an avenue for public officers from different councils to interact, exchange experiences and gain fresh perspectives on leadership and governance.
Beyond the lectures and discussions, the seminar strengthened the understanding that effective governance requires collaboration, emotional intelligence, responsible decision-making and a clear sense of purpose.
As the participants return to their respective councils, the expectation is that the lessons acquired will reflect in their approach to governance, relationships with colleagues and constituents, and their commitment to delivering meaningful results.
The Leadership Development Seminar may have ended, but its central message remains clear: public office is temporary, but the impact of purposeful service can become a lasting legacy.
