NBA IKORODU HOLDS 13TH B.O. BENSON PUBLIC LECTURE, AS HON JUSTICE KAZEEM ALOGBA SPEAKS ON CHALLENGES FACING EFFECTIVE JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA. | Shakiru Seidu. Royal Heads, Judges, Lawyers, Professionals, others in attendance.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Branch, on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, held its 13th edition of Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson SAN Annual Public Lecture. The branch Chairman, Mr. Adebayo A. Akinlade, Esq and other executive members of the branch had earlier before now holds different stages of programmes in celebration of this year's Law Week.

According to the Branch Chairman, Mr Akinlade, while speaking with MegaXpression Community Magazine, said the Law Week is usually a week set aside by the branches of the NBA in Nigeria to celebrate the Legal Profession. He described this year's event as the 13th Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson (SAN) Annual Lecture as part of the continued legal education programme of the Bar.

In an eloquent presentation, the Hon Acting Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon Justice Kazeem O. Alogba, did justice to the topic, titled, 'Challeges of effective Justice Administration, A call for attitudinal Change’. But before going deep on the topic, the Acting Chief Judge thanked Chief B.O. Benson, SAN, and his amiable wife, for the training and mentorship given to him, which as really helped his career for over 23 years, sitting as a Judge in Lagos State.

He thereafter went deep on the challenges causing lack of effective justice administration in Nigeria, attributed it to the lost in value of Judicial System. He frowned at the poor speaking of English Language of some Lawyers and the ugly ways of dressing of some Counsels.

Alogba further fault some inadequacies in the judicial system, saying it was due to lack of independence of Judicial funding. He urged the government to take administration of Law as priority. He however, applauded past administrations in Lagos State since 1999 till date, for the uncommon attention giving to Judicial System in the State.

Justice Alogba also affirmed that the Judiciary will support the government of Lagos State to enforce the traffic Laws. He seek for more Judges in the State, enjoined the Nigeria Police to be more scientific in their investigations, and asked the relevant authorities to improve the welfare of non judicial Staff in Lagos State. "Law is meant to check and discipline people and it's necessary we review our laws if truly we want to make prosperity," he added.

The discussants, Professor Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, Mrs Titi Akinlawon, SAN, Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, and Mr Benson Enikuomeyin, Esq, also gave proper scrutiny to the topic. They all agreed for government to double the number of Judges in Lagos State.

In his royal remarks, HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, applauded the significant roles of Chief B.O. Benson, SAN, in judicial system. While urging all to maintain law and order, he seek for the roles of traditional institution to be giving more recognition in the judicial system.

Among other distinguished personalities that contributed to the success of the lecture were, His Royal Majesties, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Semiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Bashir Aremu Sotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Samuel Olusegun Shobowale Benson, Olojodu of Ojodu, High Chiefs, League of Baales.

Mr Shakiru Sanni was on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, removed from his position as the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo Kingdom, after his alleged gross misconduct and disrespect to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and traditional institution of Igbogboland. Mr Shakiru Sanni of Amoju branch, Lantan Onanusi Family in Igbogbo, was made the Olumale Eluku of Igbogbo few years back, and accused of insubordination, abused of tittle and total disrespect to the King, traditional institution of the land and Lantan Onanusi Family.
