  1. Get your facts right and don't misinform the public please. This is not the first Community Radio in Nigeria. It is not the 2nd, 3rd, etc. In 2015, the first set of community radio licences (17) were issued by President Goodluck Jonathan and many of them are operational. The first of them to start operation was Lavun community radio in Niger State.
Also, take note that community radio is a radio station owned and run by the community, and for the community.

  2. Congratulations to the Ikorodu people. We pray that IKD will serve them very well and contribute to community development. But please: this is not the first community radio in Nigeria. Before IKD FM, we had Lavun Community Radio in 2015 and it is still broadcasting. We also have Ejule Nen Community Radio (Ondo State); Nenzit Community Radio (Kaduna State); Agba Community Radio (Benue State), and Kakaki Community Radio (Ondo State). These 5 stations were the first generation community radio; they started broadcasting around 2015/2016. That was at least 5 years ago. Right now, there are possibly 15 to 20 community radio stations operating in Nigeria. Kindly correct the error. You are doing a great job on your blog. E ku ise.

  3. When facts are distorted, the credibility of the blog writer, platform used and the article become suspicious and questions are raised. It is more daunting to personalities involved in the report. Lavun Community Radio Kutigi, Niger State is the first Community Radio station in Nigeria. It is an established fact that over the years, there are many other Community Radio stations operating in the country, hence tagging this station in Ikorodu as the first Community Radio in Nigeria is misleading and gross misinformation. For those who work in the frontline of CR as Community Radio is widely known, the main actor portrayed n this report as the brain behind the building of this Ikorodu station raised salient issues about the credibility of the National Broadcasting Commission, the regulatory body in charge of broadcast media. The national framework, laws and objectives of establishing Community Radio stations in Nigeria does not give room for the involvement of Political Officers as owners. It's either this report is not well researched or some illegalities were involved in sourcing the licence and setting up of the station. If this is true, it is a strong indictment on NBC and assertions made here can be used in legal matters as sharp practices of the Commission. Please note that some basic components of any journalistic endeavor are truths, facts and reliable information. This write-up seems devoid of truth and it brought serious indictment to major actors in government. I suggest a damage control process to rectify the claimed errors. Best wishes.

  4. We sincerely thank you all for your comments and observations, I do appreciate the significance of information.

The radio station is the first community radio in Lagos State outside the campus and not just given licence. It is registered by iCare Foundation and would be privately managed by the foundation to serve purely the community.

However, we have taken seriously your comments and would be properly readdressed without wasting time.

We genuinely appreciate your patronage on our blog. Regards.
