SENATOR ABIRU LAUNCHES COVID-19 RELIEF ASSISTANCE, GIVES FINANCIAL AID TO ANOTHER SET OF THOUSANDS VULNERABLE IN LAGOS EAST. ...Says the idea is a fulfillment of his electoral campaign promises. ...Reiterates commitment to support market women with credit facilities, among others.

The Senator, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has launched the Covid-19 relief financial assistance, which is specially designed to ameliorate the diversative impact of Covid-19, stating that he has gone through best way to reach the widows, senior citizens, unemployed youths and people with disabilities. 

In his eloquent address, Abiru said the idea is a fulfillment of his electoral campaign promises that he will not abandon the vuluerable segment in the society, particularly at a time like this. "After the successful election and formal inauguration in December 5 and 15, 2020, immediately, the sense of urgency that my Team attached to the welfare of the poorest of the poor in our mist complied us to hit the ground," the Senator said.

Abiru further stated, "I have the honour of informing you that over 2,000 vulnerable people in 98 Wards across the 16 local Government Areas in our District had befitted from this financial assistance. The beneficiaries are scheduled into two categories first one thousands beneficiaries for the first month while another one thousands beneficiaries for the second month. Haven't successfully piloted two streams of payment to beneficiaries in January and February, we deemed it feet to formally make the payment of the month of March also on April 1st 2021.

"Part of what we did is to identify members of the society that are vulnerable, in a time like this that we have the Covid-19 rampant in the entire World. The scheme is very simple and we have made it very simple and equally mindful of the protocol. So it's not a scheme whereby people will lineup or running after anyone to collect his or her share of the support. It is very systemic because it was been run through a data that has been gathered through the banking system without having direct contact with anybody.

"However, I came on as what is typically described as midstream due to my circumstances of coming in, because of my predecessor, Late. Senator Sikiru Adebayo Oshinowo. While I also have to refer to him is because the time between his passage and when I came on board, a lots had happen at the national level. Let me assure you that on my own, I have tried to catch up some of the benefits that should have ordinarily come on our way if the late Senator was around. 

"Things we have done in other to catch up is that during the last two months, we have tried to get some of the benefits that ordinarily should have been in our Constituency, one of it is the survival fund of the federal government. Over three hundred transporters and artisans have been indentied and some of them have started receiving their payment. This intervention is just one in the series of the targeted at the critical demography of our district.

"Other intervention that will come on board will be for traders assistance for the market women, that will be next phase we are going to focus on and of course, scholarship and busary to qualified students in our higher institutions will be done," the distinguished Senator explained.

Reporting his two months of stewardship, Sen. Abiru said he had donated 150,000 facemask to primary school pupils through the Lagos State Universal Basic Education, SUBEB, insisting that it's important to protect the young students during this pandemic. "We also realized that we must also give some support to the teachers, part of what we also plan to do for the teachers is to do a free medical eye test for them and possibly help them with vision glasses that can aid their teaching exercise, Abiru stated.

The distinguished Senator also revealed to MegaXpression Media, that he has embarked on the needs assessment, which is a delibrate study conducted across all the 16 local government of Lagos East, in other to identify the basic needs that are very important to all the respective local governments. 

"We have done this in a methodical manner by engaging over 770 people across the Lagos East. I've been able to interact with people at the federal and State level and parts of the assurances that I've been received is that, they have agreed to bring at least six new major projects that can also impact on the lives of our Constituency, 

"Some of the identified projects are what I relate to as Schools, Primary Health Centres, Vocational Centres and Sports Complexes. So, by the grace of God, I can assure you that before we get to the half of this year, you'll all begin to see some of these projects coming alive, Abiru added.

In his remark, the former deputy Governor and member of GAC, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, applauded the gesture of Senator Abiru for making a positive impact in the whole of Lagos East senatorial district. "I am very happy and not suprise about the Covid-19 relief financial assistance that Abiru is launching, because it has been part and parcel of him to render help to the vulnerable people in his district," he said.

Also, the former Secretary to the State government in Lagos State and member of GAC, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, the Apase of Epe land and GAC member, Alhaji Shakiru Seriki Bamu, were both agreed that Abiru have mede difference with the shortest time, noting that his reputation has no doubt speaks for him.

In the same vein, Senator Anthony Adefuye, Omo'ba Olumuyiwa Olusanya and Lagos East APC Vice Chairman, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, in a separate remarks applauded the uncommon gesture of Senator Abiru, urging all the beneficiaries of Tokunbo Abiru Covid-19 Financial Relief Assistance to utilize and make good use of the fund, MegaXpression reports.

CAN Chairman Ikorodu Central Evangelist Dr. Emmanuel Adegoke and the Chief Imam of Ikorodu Central Mosque, Sheik Sheifudeen Olowooribi said Sen. Abiru is a God's sent servant and indeed, he's religious sensitive, noting that he had proven to be a true definition of an accountant and serve as a good example to other people in the Senate.
