ORGANIZERS UNVEIL PROGRAMMES FOR 12TH OLDIES APPRECIATION GAME IN IGBOGBO. | Shakiru Seidu. ...Set to honor Sports Veterans, Provide Opportunities for Physical Activities.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2024 Oldies Appreciation Game had its press conference on Saturday, April 13, to announce programmes for the forthcoming 12th edition game, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 20th April, 2024, at Eleja Primary School Igbogbo.
In his eloquent address, the OAG Chairman, Prince Ogunlewe Ademola said the game is aimed at celebrating and honoring sports veterans, adding that the working class would equally use the opportunity to interact and get involved in other sporting games.
"The Amputee Football Federation of Nigeria will be putting on an exhibition game, showcasing their incredible skills and determination. And to add to the excitement, the Nigeria Supporters’ Club will be there to entertain the crowd with their awesome display.
"The event is not just about fun and games, it's also aimed at promoting physical fitness and unity. This is an annual tradition that has a positive impact on the lives of sports veterans who often face tough living conditions and health challenges," Ogunlewe revealed.
He added that the Cute Medical Centre Igbogbo has sponsored a medical outreach program during the event. "The hospital will provide healthcare services to those in need. And that is not all, also we have partnered with Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA on palliatives, which would be distributed at the event.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Children Department, Ms Damilola Edward, equally shared some exciting news about the upcoming event, noting that the participation fee for the event is 5k. "This will provide an opportunity for children to unwind and mingle, as many families don’t have enough time for fun activities with their kids," she opined.
"To ensure more fantastic experience, we are bringing wide variety of games for the children to enjoy. These include Chess, Scrabble, Bouncing Castle, face painting, and many more. With such a range of activities, there will be something for every child to enjoy," Damilola added.
Speaking with Mr Jelili Ogunmuyiwa, a FIFA badge referee, said this year's edition, attendees are required to wear the official jersey before entering the venue, adding that the jersey will serve as a pass, to ensure smooth entry for all fans.
The Anchor, Mr Tolulope Faniyi, also added that this year’s event will feature an incredible lineup of entertainers; guest artistes and energetic hypemans to keep the crowd pumped up throughout the day.
"The event promises to be stars-studded, with many ex-Super Eagles players in attendance. And guess what? They won’t just be there as spectators, but they’ll also be participating in the games, Faniyi stated.
