HON. AMA FLAGS OFF ULTRA- MODERN IJEDE FISH HUB, ADVANCES SANWO-OLU'S BLUE ECONOMY VISION

In a landmark move to strengthen Lagos State's blue economy and unlock new economic opportunities for coastal communities, the Member representing Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA), on Friday, July 24, 2026, officially laid the foundation blocks for the construction of the Ijede Fish Hub Building at Madan, Ijede.

The project, described as a strategic investment in the state's fisheries and aquaculture sector, is expected to revolutionise fish production, processing, storage and marketing while creating sustainable employment opportunities for residents across Ikorodu Constituency II.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Aro said the initiative aligns with the vision of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's administration, which has continued to prioritise the blue economy as a critical pillar for sustainable development, food security, wealth creation and economic diversification in Lagos State.

According to the lawmaker, the Sanwo-Olu administration recognises the enormous economic potential of the aquatic sector and is deliberately investing in infrastructure capable of improving the livelihoods of fishermen, fish farmers and other stakeholders within coastal communities.

He explained that the Ijede Fish Hub would serve as a modern business centre for fish aggregation, preservation and marketing, thereby reducing post-harvest losses, increasing productivity and improving the income of local operators.

Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the people of Ikorodu Constituency II, assuring them that quality representation remains the hallmark of his legislative mandate.

"The confidence reposed in me by my people remains my greatest motivation. I will continue to champion projects and programmes that directly impact lives, stimulate economic growth and bring meaningful development to every community within Ikorodu Constituency II," he stated.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director-General of the AMA Smile Foundation, Hon. Adewale Bolowotan, described the event as a historic turning point for the people of Ijede and the entire constituency.

He noted that the project goes beyond the physical construction of a building, saying it represents the foundation of a shared vision that will transform the local economy, empower fishermen and aquaculture farmers, and guarantee food abundance for future generations.

Bolowotan paid glowing tribute to Hon. Aro, whom he described as an exceptional leader, mentor and visionary public servant whose uncommon courage, dedication and passion for grassroots development made the project possible.

According to him, Hon. Aro relentlessly pursued the initiative through strategic engagements and unwavering determination to ensure that Ijede and neighbouring communities are not left behind in the emerging blue economy revolution.

"Hon. Ama does not merely dream about a better tomorrow; he works tirelessly to build it. This Fish Hub is a lasting testament to his foresight, selflessness and determination to lift our people from poverty into prosperity," he declared.

The Director-General assured stakeholders that the project would be executed according to the highest standards and delivered within schedule under the effective supervision of Hon. Aro.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, and the Executive Chairman of Imota LCDA, Hon. Sunday Ayodele Benson, commended Hon. AMA for his visionary leadership and impactful representation.

The Council Chairmen described the Fish Hub as a game-changing project capable of stimulating commerce, creating employment and strengthening food security within the division. They also appealed for more developmental and infrastructural projects across their respective council areas.

Traditional rulers present at the ceremony equally showered encomiums on the lawmaker for his outstanding performance and unwavering commitment to the development of Ikorodu Constituency II.

Among the royal fathers in attendance were His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Adefarasin Hassan, the Alajede of Ijede; His Royal Majesty, Oba Mudashir Ajibade Bakare Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota; and His Royal Majesty, Oba Richard Abayomi Ogunsanya, all of whom applauded Hon. Aro for providing purposeful representation and facilitating people-centred projects that continue to improve the lives of constituents.

The event was also attended by the Permanent Secretary, traditional chiefs, Baales, members of the AMA Smile Foundation, political leaders, community stakeholders and residents, all of whom expressed optimism that the Ijede Fish Hub would become a major catalyst for economic transformation and reinforce Lagos State's position as Nigeria's leading blue economy hub.
