IKORODU YOUTHS ARE VERY DYNAMIC, KNOWLEDGEABLE BUT SOME LACK INTEGRITY. - Otunba Ganiu Abiru.

The former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly and Chairman Ikorodu Development Association, IKODASS, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, has charged the youths of Ikorodu Division to wake up from their slumber, get themselves involved in politics and other developmental activities of Ikorodu Division, saying Ikorodu youths are Knowledgeable, Dynamic but some lack integrity.

Abiru, who spoke on “Positioning youths for political leadership” at the just concluded 2-day iCARE lecture series, organised by Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson, MHR, at Rega Hall, Igbogbo, Lagos, revealed that the future of a nation resonates hope when its young ones are cherished, catered for, saying leadership is a process which involves influencers, entails goals achievement.

He stated that the youths have been positioned for leadership from time immemorial in Nigeria, adding that the problem is the difference between the youths of those days and present ones. He said the present day youths are impatient to go through the rigor of training and are not patriotic.

"Ikorodu youths knowledgeable dynamic but unprincipled. Can we compare the youths of today with the youths of yesterday? Political elites not giving the youth an opportunity because of their stupendous wealth which could not be met.

"Imposition of candidates at the expense of youths who are more competent by political parties, sponsors of god fatherism to push the case of political appointments of the youths, poverty of the electrocute, refusal of old politicians to quite political stage, blind loyalty, among numerous reasons were some of the factors affecting the youths," Abiru said.

He further added that the 'Not too young to rule' law has not changed anything because the political parties will not make it work due to lack of internal democracy in the parties, challenging the youths of Ikorodu Division to get their acts together and take over leadership with their numerical strength.

“If youths can get their acts together, they can take the reign of power by presenting common candidate. We can’t continue to run politics in the state and division the way we are running it and expect youths to take over power. Since politics in Nigeria is monetized, there is no way the youths will rule and this is why the #Nottooyoungtorule law is deceitful”, Otunba Abiru stated.

"Power is not served Alar Carte. The youths must organize themselves to form a strong and formidable youth vanguard. Aggressive campaign to vote for competent individuals rather than political parties, adoption of significant leadership model, undergo political tutelage and they must be principled and trusted if truly they mean business," Abiru added.

The IKODASS Boss urged the government to set agenda for the NASS on the youths for gainful engagement. Asked the Banks to come to the aid of young educated graduates with soft reduce employment and the School curriculum to be redrafted to encourage entrepreneurs.

"We are losing our youth in this country to frustration and despair and there must be a comprehensive agenda for them. I have a lot young people around me, I know what they tell me about what is going out there that I may not know and it is scary, it should scare everyone in position of authority," Abiru explained.
