It was a great day for Ikorodu Traditionalists and culture enthusiasts, on Friday, August 20, when all assembled at Ayangburen Palace, Ikorodu, to celebrate this year’s edition of the annual Isese Day festival, MegaXpression Media was there.
While addressing the Traditionalists, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, said to government that setting a day aside to celebrate traditional culture and practices had become imperative if Nigerians were to find a lasting solution to the myriad of challenges facing the nation.
The Monarch described the Isese Day as an annual ritual, designed by the Traditionalists, to bring together traditional rulers, traditional believers and adherents of traditional religions, demands better recognition for traditional institution.
"The significant of Isese day particularly to traditionalists is very symbolic because when our forefathers are coming to the earth, they cherished in asking their gods the way forward on how they are going to establish and make development, so they consults the Oracle before knowing where to settle and what to do," Oba Shotobi said.
"When I was to be crowned as the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, it was this same traditional institution that we are celebrating today that gave me the lead way to all it's entails to become King and I will continue to cherish them, he stated.
The Monarch further urged the Lagos State government to emulate same gesture as that of Osun State, by making August 20 as public holiday, noting that traditional religion is a blessing to Lagos State.
In his fluent contributions, Chief Adisa Ajiritutu (Koowe), appreciated HRM. Oba Kabir Shotobi, for his cordial relationship with the traditionalists of Ikorodu and by way of promoting Yoruba culture on a daily basis.
"Traditional religion is not a filthy religion because all our deities are the physical realm Ministers of God. When we perform rites and worships, we are rendering all to God through those deities.
"To all Ikorodu Traditionalists, be proud of the tradition and culture because the way and manner in which we value it, is the way other people will also value it, Chief Adisa appealed.
This year's celebration was graced with the presence of Osugbos, Eleluku, Awo-Opa, Ogboni, Liwe, Alagemo, Abilefo from Ijomu, Ifagunwa from Mowo kekere, Elerinle from Aga, Awo-Opa Gberigbe, Abilefo from Itunwolo, Eleluku from Parafa, Eleluku from Mowonla, Osanyingbemi, Aboringin, Ogboni fratanity, Onigunnuko from Odonla, Medical Herbalists, Alasa from Ijomu, Orisa Olomitutu, and amongst others.
