COVID-19: WIMBIZ PALLIES iCARE FOODBANK, REACHES OUT TO 1,000 WOMEN IN IKORODU, DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIALS. The gesture had become imperative, giving the socio-economic effects of lockdown, DG iCARE Foundation, Mayor Muyideen Sanwoola reveals.
As efforts to curtail the spread of Coronavirus Pandemic continue, a non-profit organization that has over the last 19 years, implemented programmes that inspires, empowers and advocates for greater representation of women in leadership positions in the public and private sectors, Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), has collaborated with iCARE Foodbank of Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson, Member, House of Representatives, to give relief materials to over 1,000 women across Ikorodu Division.
The gesture which held at iCARE's office in Igbogbo, Lagos, witnessed observation of the necessary precautionary measures directed by the State Government to contain the spread of Coronavirus, such as social distancing, usage of sanitizer and checking the temperature of those in attendance.
Speaking with MegaXpression Community News, the WIMBIZ Coordinator said the distribution of the relief materials to women is necessary at this critical time, when the lockdown has collapsed most economy, noting that the vision of WINBIZ is to elevate the status and influence of women and their contribution to nation building. "We aimed to inspire and empower women to attain leadership positions in business, management and public service", he said.
"What we are doing is to collaborate with iCARE Foodbank to identify those who are women and vulnerable in Ikorodu federal Constituency, give them the food items, regardless of political affiliations and regardless of religious beliefs without any discrimination. "The COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge to humanity and it has no respect for primordial sentiments and we are very sure of this”, he added.
Also, the Director General of iCARE Foundation, Mayor Muyideen Sanwoola, said to MegaXpression that the gesture had become imperative, giving the socio-economic effects of the lockdown on the people, occasioned by the need to contain the rampaging coronavirus which has put the entire world on the edge.
He stated that the move is to curb the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus in the State. “Leadership is all about responsibility and at a very trying moment like this, the best way we could show love to our people is by doing everything within our power to bring relief materials to them as palliatives, and this riding on the number of other interventions that we have done since this pandemic broke out," Sanwoola said.
He further urged the residents of Ikorodu federal Constituency to maintain personal hygiene, observe social distancing and follow all preventive guidelines that will help curb the spread the coronavirus pandemic.
While responding to the gesture, some of the visibly elated beneficiaries, Mrs Ademola Dumola from Imota, Mrs Bolanle Adebowale from Ikorodu, Mrs Adelaja Oluwatoyin from Igbogbo and Mrs Ibe Juliana from Ijede, among other beneficiaries from various communities, thanked the WIMBIZ and Hon Babajimi Benson for the gesture, saying they were not surprised, knowing that Hon. Benson had always been in touch with his constituents, and as a well-known philanthropist, he has always come to the aid of his people.
