COVID-19 RELIEF: ADDITIONAL 10,000 HOUSEHOLDS GAIN FROM HON. BABAJIMI BENSON RELIEF PACKAGE IN IKORODU. ...Says nothing can be too much for his Constituents.
The Chairman House Committee on Defence and Member, House of Representatives, representing Ikorodu federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson, has again distributed additional 10,000 Relief Package, worth millions of naira to his constituents in the third batch distribution of iCARE Foodbank, to relieve his constituents of the economic strains of the sit-at-home directive of the Federal and State Governments.
The lawmaker, who is fondly called JB, distributed a truckload of Rice on Tuesday to 10,000 Households in Ikorodu Division. The 30 Wards, 30 Councillors, Aspirants in the last elections, religious, community and political leaders, youth, groups and Associations, amongst others benefited from the uncommon gesture.
Speaking with MegaXpression Community News during the distribution of the coronavirus relief package, Hon. Benson said since the people are being encouraged to obey the lockdown directive of the government, so, there is need to get them what to eat. "It is not good for any lawmaker to abandon his or her people in a crisis period like this," JB said.
“Nothing can be too much for the good people of Ikorodu federal constituency. What is expected of me is to provide basic food items for my constituents that have been locked down by the sit-at-home directive. So, the move is in a bid to help the needy cushion the effect of the lockdown and to sensitize them on the dangers posed by COVID-19.” Hon. Benson added.
Meanwhile, he further enjoined his constituents to continue to obey the basic hygiene instruction of regular hand wash with soap for a minimum of twenty seconds and to also observe social distancing.
The lawmaker equally thanked Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for decisively leading the fight against COVID-19 in Lagos State, assuring him of his unalloyed support during these trying times.
“The threat of coronavirus is very real and we must not carelessly endanger our lives by taking our health for granted. We should endeavour to use hand sanitisers regularly, but those of us that cannot afford one should wash hands regularly with soap. We must also avoid any form of gathering that may be more than 20 people,” Hon Benson explained.
While appreciating the gesture of the lawmaker, the Councillor, representing Ward C5 in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Kolejo, said to MegaXpression Community News that they are very lucky to have a lawmaker like JB in Ikorodu Division.
"He has always been identifying with the people in our time of lack and surplus. It is also important to appreciate his regular presence in our midst. What he has done now is another of his regular gestures being extended to our people,” Kolejo said.
