A Non- governmental Association, Eko Club International, on Sunday, embarked on free food distribution drive for old and the needy of Igbogbo community in Ikorodu, as part of their community social responsibility during restriction of movement directive by government.
Princess Adeshola Haastrup, the Club's Coordinator, said the support was part of measures took by the Club to alleviate the suffering of residents of Lagos State, under the period of stay at home syndrome, due to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Haastrup revealed to MegaXpression Community News that the support was also to ensure people were not too burdened by the closure of businesses and trade activities, which might have been their source of daily income before the issuance of the directive. Eko Club International with the primary aim of fostering harmonious relationship among friends in Diaspora and to in no little way contribute to socio-economic and development of Lagos State.
The intervention programme of Eko Club International which came up on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Lagos State, identified the less privileged people who have the strength to come to the venue and were given the food packs individually.
The second Coordinator, Madam Bunmi Onimole, while addressing MegaXpression Community News, also reiterated that the welfare of people is of paramount interest to the club, hence the resolve of the club to organise the food distribution to complement the government efforts.
She enjoined Nigerians to comply with all the rules and regulations to curb further spread of Coronavirus. Onimole further urged all and sundry to comply with the international best practice, NCDC, Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Health.
The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Bldr Olusesan Daini, while responding to the newsmen, applauded the good gesture of Eko Club International, for supporting Igbogbo community in food package relief to residents, based on the restriction order and the COVID-19 stay at home directive of the government.
"I want to sincerely appreciate the support of the Eko Club International and I pray that God will continue to lift them up, for deeming it fit that Igbogbo Community should be one of the places they would extend their magnanimity," he said.
Also, His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, in the same vein showed sincere gratitude to the Eko Club International, for the timely intervention and prayed that God will bless the entire members of the club for showing rare kindness to Igbogbo people at a hard time like this.
