COVID-19: IJEDE COMMUNITY AGREES, REJECTS PROPOSED COOKED FOOD AS RELIEF PACKAGE FOR RESIDENTS BY EGBIN POWER PLC. It will be so ridiculous on the image of Ijede Community, Fatiu Salisu, Adedamola Aderibigbe, others reveal.

As efforts to curtail the spread of Coronavirus Pandemic continues in Lagos State, the Chairman, Adedamola Aderibigbe and other Committee Members of Ajede Luwasa Day 2020 Planning Committee, has staged a peaceful protest to Alajede's Palace, Ijede, on Monday, over the cooked food, proposed by the Egbin Thermal Power Station for residents of Ijede LCDA as relief materials. The Committee also accused the management of the power plant for failure to exhibit corporate social responsibility in the community since 1981.

Egbin Power Plant, which is the largest Power generating station in Nigeria and one of the largest in the West African sub-region with an installed capacity of 1,320 MW consisting of 6 Units of 220MW each, was said to feed over 5,000 residents of Ijede LCDA with cooked rice and meat, commencing from Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

While addressing the Regent of Ijede, High Chief Alliu Musediku, and other members of Alajede-in-Council, Chairman Ajede Luwasa 2020, Mr Aderibigbe, applauded the intended gesture of the Power Station, but noting that Ijede can not go with the method of being on a queue and start sharing cooked food for them as relief package. He therefore appealed to the Alajede-in-Council and representatives of Ijede at the Power Station, to revisit their decision for the interest of Ijede Community.

Also, the Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Alhaji Fatiu Salisu, who addressed the gathering, not as a Chairman, but as a true indigene of Ijede Community, said the social, health and security implications on the LCDA should not be compromised. He therefore, in the same vein, appealed passionately to Alajede-in-Council and Isokan Forum to put the image of Ijede Community into consideration. "We are not beggars in Ijede," he stated.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Isokan Congress Ijede. Alhaji Olu Muraina, who led the other Representatives of Ijede LCDA at the Egbin Power Station, applauded the genuine observation of the Ajede Luwasa 2020 Committee, saying the observation would be giving thorough consideration.

He admonished the Alajede-in-Council that their wishes would be implemented, noting that the progress and development of Ijede LCDA is sacrosanct to all. "The earlier decision was agreed on at the Palace and now that the decision is being reviewed, the wish of the community leaders will prevail," Alhaji Muraina said.

Responding to the plea, the Regent of Ijede, High Chief Alliu Musediku, thanked the peaceful manner of approach displayed by the Ajede Luwasa Day 2020 Committee, saying the image of Ijede needs to be truly protected. "We agreed before because of the concent given by our neighbouring communities, but looking at the social, health and security implications, we urge the Egbin power Station to convert the proposed cooking of rice and meat for food stuffs or money, as relief materials for the residents of Ijede Community.

Other Chiefs in attendance were Aro of Ijede, Odofin of Ijede, Otunba of Ijede, Mr Monsuru Bello, Mr Wahab Bello, and other members of Ajede Luwasa Day 2020 Committee.
