COVID-19: IKORODU RESIDENTS COMMEND SANWO-OLU FOR RELIEF MATERIALS. ...as 4,200 Food Relief Packs share among Groups, CDAs, Local Councils, others.
The efforts of the Lagos State government at ameliorating the foreseeable pains associated with the sit at home directive has received boost in Ikorodu Division as Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, extended his magnanimity by distributing thousands of food items to the people of the Division.
A total of 4, 200 Lagos State Emergency Food Relief Packs from the State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture was shared among Groups, Local Councils, CDAs, Youth and Social Media Groups across Ikorodu Division of Lagos State.
The food packs, which was brought in trucks arrived at Ikorodu LG Secretariat, on Friday, April 3, 2020. This was in fulfilment of Governor Sanwoolu’s promise to distribute the relief packs across all the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas of the State to cushion the effect of the Covid-19 lockdown on the vulnerable members of the public.
Gov Sanwoolu recently promised to provide emergency food relief and support to about 200,000 households in the State, following the presidential directive for a total lockdown of the State to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease in the State.
Speaking with MegaXpression Community News, on the rationale behind the distribution of food items, the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Bldr Olusesan Daini, said the donation of the items by the State government became imperative to alleviate the hardships the people might face as a result of the lockdown in the State.
He said the beneficiaries who are mostly the vulnerable people in the Ikorodu Division were selected across the Division, insisting that the selection process was free and fair. Daini further commended the uncommon leadership quality of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic to a standstill in Lagos State.
Also, the Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Wasiu Adeshina, applauded the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his kind gesture on the vulnerable people and the masses generally. He appealed passionately for the residents of Ikorodu to adhere strictly with stay at home order for their own safety.
In the same vein, the Chairmen, Imota, Ijede, Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West LCDAs, Prince Wasiu Agoro, Hon. Fatiu Salisu, Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo and Princess Jumoke Jumbo-Ademeyin, applauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture, on the precautionary measures and policies in alleviating the suffering of the masses. The 6 CDC Chairmen also tolled the same line by way of appreciating the assiduous efforts of the Lagos State Government.
The Coordinator of the Relief Pack distribution in Ikorodu, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, in his eloquent remarks explained that the packs was distributed across every segments of Ikorodu namely, Council Chairman, CDAs, Youth and Social Media Groups across the Division.
"We have ensured that the food packs get to the target members of the community who are vulnerable. We have used the database the six CDCs across the division to reach out to all CDAs. We also shared to youth groups, and the physically challenged in the community. The whole idea is to ensure that the vulnerable members of the public who cannot move around during this lockdown are able to access it", Dr. Fatai-Abatan said.
Also speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Ishola Adewusi from Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, commended the State Government, for the kind gesture. “I thank Gov. Sanwo-Olu for reacting promptly toward ameliorating the hardship on the people,” Adewusi said.
