NIIT ORGANIZES SIX WEEKS TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR YOUTHS ACROSS IKORODU DIVISION. ...It's aimed at making Ikorodu Division a celicon value in Nigeria, Ikorodu Monarch, Oba Shotobi reveals.
The Palace of Ayangburen of Ikorodu was recently played host officials of NIIT, who visited HRM. Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, to inform about the training which is tagged 'Street2click'.
While addressing the gathering, the Manager of NIIT, Ikorodu chapter, Mr Fredrick Oka said, "we have been doing series of programmes for different categories of people but this time around we are organizing six weeks training programme, which is different from every other programmes we have been doing in the past.
This training emerges as a result of Endsars protest and we have decided to run this programmes for about 2,000 people across Lagos State.
Also, the Manager of 'Street2click' Naomi Job Kalu, explained that NIIT trains more youths, give yearly scholarship that is focused on graduates and undergraduates, noting that this particular project is actually focused on street youths.
"I.T is a life skill regardless of what you do today, no matter what you are, whether you are a small shop owner or an employee of an organization, you need I.T, because in the world today I.T is very revelant.
"So as a responsible I.T training institute, we felt that we will use what we do best to better our society. This scheme is unique because of the demography of people we are looking for and the target is for youths who can not afford education within the age range of 18-40.
"Street2click is actually a free course for the street youths but because of the kindness and generosity of HRM. Oba Adewale Shotobi, who has pleaded because of the big heartfelt he had for Ikorodu, that we should extend it to the graduates because most of them are unemployed," Naomi said.
"Presently we have mapped out for courses, strategically for this programme, video editing, graphics, programing, hardware repair and maintenance.
"The training is going to run for six weeks and after which we will take out of the lots by deploying at most one third of the number to an organization according to your performance and will be paid for. Counsellors will counsell them at the point of entry and model them because we are not just sending people to companies, but we want to ensure that they are able to comply with policies and responsible enough to do what they have been deploy for and also our monitoring and evaluation team will ensure that they are been checked on and see if they are doing what they are deploy for," Naomi added.
Speaking also at the event, the former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, said the Ayangburen of Ikorodu is in support of the programme, but appealed that the project should be extended to those who actually need them, especially those on the street and grassroots across Ikorodu Division.
Also speaking at the event, the IKODASS Chairman, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, added that the beneficiaries are about to start preparing for their future.
"The Endsars protest was a watershed in this country, the protest have discovered and explained the problems and challenges of this Nation, just as they said 'poverty is the father of criminality, noting that the unemployment of our youths might tempt to criminality.
In his royal remarks, HRM. Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, appreciated the organisers of the programme, assuring them of his unalloyed support.
"Don't disappoint me in your training and let's take this programme with all seriousness, total commitment and zeal. Once you are equipped, I have the believe that what you have will be permanent with you and can make use of it in your endeavours," Oba Shotobi beseeched the beneficiaries.
