DG and Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan and Mr Sola Aiyepeku during the inspection tour in Ikorodu.
Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Prince Toyin Gafaar, popularly known as Bolowotan, executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr Sola Aiyepeku, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, amongst other members of the Sports Commission, were on Tuesday commenced an inspection tour of Sports facilities with Ita-Elewa Mini Stadium Ikorodu and Igbogbo Sports Stadium in Igbogbo.
Bolowotan at the Ita-Elewa Mini Stadium said to MegaXpression and other newsmen that the community stakeholders will be involved in the management of the sports facilities. “The projects belong to the people of Ikorodu and they will be part and parcel of the management.”
Bolowotan further reiterated the Commission’s passion for sporting engagements amongst children. He mentioned that owing to the pandemic, participation at these activities is limited, adding that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is doing incredibly well towards sports development in the state.
Also, the Chairman of the sports commission, Mr Aiyepeku, equally said to MegaXpression that the inspection of the Ita-Elewa sports complex, is aimed at improving the growth of sports equitably across communities in Lagos State, describing the people of Ikorodu people as “passionate, sports loving Lagosians.”
He said the facilities at the complex included a 5-aside pitch, players’ dressing room, indoor halls for boardgames, among others.
Aiyepeku equally thanked Babajimi Benson, member House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Consitituency, for investing in the project.
As regards to the newly constituted board of the commission, the Executive Chairman observed that the constitution was of a younger demography, of persons who aren’t just sports-minded but possess managerial experience.
“This decision is in line with Mr Governor’s resolve to enhance youth involvement in governance,” he said.
Reacting to a question on the promise made by the governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, that his administration will build a standard stadium in Ikorodu, Aiyepeku stated that the Commission had begun preliminary work but the advent of COVID-19 and its accompanying effects on the economy affected the process.
