The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has congratulated Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, MHR, on the 10th anniversary of the iCARE Foodbank, popularly known as Apo-Àánú, describing the initiative as a decade-long commitment to compassion, social responsibility and support for vulnerable members of society.
Established in October 2016, the iCARE Foodbank has consistently provided food assistance to vulnerable constituents, reaching over 60,000 beneficiaries across Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the last decade. Its monthly distribution programme, which supports more than 500 needy persons, has become a sustained humanitarian intervention for families facing economic hardship.
The 10th-anniversary celebration, marked by the distribution of food items and cash support to another 500 beneficiaries, represents a significant milestone in the initiative’s history and reinforces its mission of extending practical assistance to those who need it most.
Aroyewun noted that the significance of Apo-Àánú lies not merely in the number of beneficiaries reached, but also in the consistency of the intervention over the years. According to him, sustaining a programme of this nature for a decade demonstrates the importance of compassion-driven leadership and the need to complement infrastructural development with direct support for the people.
He commended Rep. Benson for maintaining the initiative since its inception, noting that the programme has provided relief to thousands of households and strengthened the culture of community support across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
“Ten years of sustained humanitarian service is worthy of recognition. The iCARE Foodbank has demonstrated that public service must extend beyond the provision of infrastructure to include deliberate efforts to support vulnerable citizens, preserve human dignity and bring relief to families in need,” Aroyewun said.
He added that the initiative’s continued operation offers a practical example of how consistent interventions can make a difference in the lives of ordinary people, particularly those who require immediate assistance with basic necessities.
The Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA chairman further noted that Benson’s interventions in humanitarian support, infrastructure and community development reflect the importance of responsive representation and partnerships that place the welfare of the people at the centre of governance.
He also welcomed the lawmaker’s planned mega empowerment programme for more than 1,000 constituents, scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, describing it as another intervention aimed at expanding economic opportunities and supporting beneficiaries beyond immediate food relief.
As the iCARE Foodbank celebrates its 10th anniversary, Aroyewun urged public office holders, private organisations and well-meaning individuals to embrace sustainable initiatives that address the needs of vulnerable populations and promote inclusive community development.
He congratulated Rep. Benson, the iCARE family, volunteers and other stakeholders who have contributed to the programme’s journey, expressing hope that the next decade would bring wider reach, stronger partnerships and greater impact.
The milestone, he said, is a reminder that meaningful development is measured not only by physical projects delivered but also by the lives supported, the families reached and the dignity preserved through sustained acts of service.
