AROYEWUN CELEBRATES KANYINSOLA AJAYI'S HISTORIC RISE, SAYS IGBOGBO CAN PRODUCE MORE WORLD CHAMPIONS. ...Commend Rep. Babajimi Benson for support towards homecoming.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has celebrated the remarkable international feat of Nigerian sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi, describing his rise from Oreyo Grammar School, Igbogbo, to the world stage as proof of the vast talent within Igbogbo and Ikorodu Division.

Ajayi, who trained at Igbogbo Stadium, clocked 9.90 seconds in the men’s 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to win bronze, becoming the first Nigerian man in 20 years to medal in the event. He had earlier finished sixth in the 100m final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Aroyewun made the remarks during a befitting homecoming organised for the athlete at the Ita-Elewa Youth Centre, where he joined residents and community leaders in celebrating one of Igbogbo’s finest sporting exports, MegaXpression gathered.

The Chairman commended Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson MHR for his support towards the homecoming and expressed appreciation to HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, for his royal blessings and support.

Aroyewun said Ajayi’s achievement goes beyond medals, describing it as evidence of what young people from Igbogbo and Ikorodu can accomplish when talent is matched with discipline, sacrifice and opportunity.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration, under the #GLORYAgenda, to youth development through sports, education and entrepreneurship, as well as the development of facilities such as Igbogbo Stadium to nurture emerging talents.

“There are many more Kanyinsolas out there. Let us find them, back them and raise them,” Aroyewun said.

From the classrooms of Oreyo Grammar School to the world’s biggest athletics stage, Kanyinsola Ajayi’s story now stands as an inspiring example of how local talent, properly nurtured, can bring pride to a community and glory to Nigeria.
