The commissioning ceremonies attracted Igbogbo monarch, Baales, political leaders, community development leaders, youths, party faithful and residents, who gathered to witness the inauguration of the projects and commend the federal lawmaker for interventions aimed at improving transportation, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the quality of life in the benefiting communities.

The event also provided an opportunity for political and community stakeholders to assess ongoing developmental efforts, identify outstanding infrastructure needs and renew their commitment to effective grassroots mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Rep. Babajimi Benson expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, youths and residents for their continued support and cooperation. He disclosed that more than 100 projects had been facilitated across Ikorodu Federal Constituency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring residents that additional developmental initiatives were in the pipeline.

The federal lawmaker recalled the constituency’s support for President Tinubu in the last general election and called for sustained unity, cooperation and collective commitment to attract further development to Ikorodu. He emphasised that his representation would continue to focus on interventions capable of addressing the needs of communities and improving the welfare of residents.

Among the proposed projects and interventions he highlighted were the construction of a bridge linking Majidun to Ogolonto and the commencement of the Pacific–Igbe Road project. He also announced plans to distribute approximately 10 transformers, provide five vehicles for security agencies and equip the trauma centre at the General Hospital. Other proposed initiatives include the rebuilding and equipping of the diagnostic centre in Imota and an empowerment programme aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities for residents.

Benson further disclosed that efforts were underway to mobilise more than 250,000 votes across Ikorodu Federal Constituency, stressing that achieving the target would require unity, strategic coordination, sustained grassroots engagement and the active participation of party members and community stakeholders.

The host Chairman and Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, commended Benson for what he described as exceptional and impactful representation, rating him as the best member of the House of Representatives in Nigeria.

He noted that the lawmaker’s interventions had continued to make a significant difference across Ikorodu, particularly through road construction, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure and other projects addressing the developmental needs of the people.

Highlighting some of the completed, ongoing and newly approved projects benefiting Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Aroyewun mentioned the Oreta/Offin Road, Pacific–Igbe/Ijede Road, Agunfoye/Olumo Road, Morekete/Oreta Road, Federal Health Centre, ICT Centre and Command Secondary School, among several other interventions. He observed that these projects demonstrated a commitment to improving accessibility, strengthening public institutions and creating opportunities for social and economic advancement.

While expressing profound appreciation for Benson’s contributions, Aroyewun made a passionate appeal for the second phase of the Igbo-Agbowa/Lajo Road, explaining that its completion would complement the Offin/Oreta Road, improve connectivity among adjoining communities and further ease transportation challenges for residents.

The council chairman also expressed confidence in Ikorodu’s capacity to achieve the proposed 250,000-vote target, assuring the gathering that the people of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA would reciprocate the developmental interventions with massive electoral support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections. He maintained that the target was achievable through unity, effective planning, voter engagement and sustained mobilisation at ward and polling-unit levels.

Similarly, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works and Infrastructure and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), applauded Benson’s unprecedented developmental achievements, describing his interventions as significant contributions to the advancement of Ikorodu. He expressed confidence that the constituency could deliver the proposed 250,000 votes but emphasised that achieving the target would require extensive mobilisation and the active participation of party members.

Ogunlewe identified limited participation in campaign councils as one of the challenges facing the party, urging members to become more involved in campaign planning, voter engagement and mobilisation activities. He called for stronger coordination among political officeholders, party executives, traditional and community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to ensure that every ward and polling unit was adequately covered. He stressed that unity, discipline and collective responsibility remained essential to translating the party’s political strength and developmental achievements into the desired electoral outcome.

In his remarks, Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA), Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, commended Benson for his interventions, noting that the projects had strengthened grassroots engagement and made political mobilisation and interaction with residents easier.

Recalling how he had brought the community’s road concerns to the federal lawmaker’s attention, AMA expressed satisfaction that the appeal had received a positive response. He urged residents and party supporters to publicise the developmental projects, communicate their benefits to other communities and support the APC, stressing the importance of sustained cooperation between elected representatives and grassroots stakeholders.

The APC Chairman in Igbogbo/ Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Taiwo Orenuga, also thanked God for the successful commissioning and expressed appreciation to everyone who attended the ceremonies. He described Benson as a leader committed to transforming Ikorodu into a modern and progressively developing constituency, expressing confidence that the newly commissioned roads would improve accessibility, ease transportation and stimulate economic activities in the benefiting communities.

Orenuga pledged to mobilise thousands of votes for the APC in the forthcoming general elections, expressing optimism that Ikorodu would continue to attract more developmental projects. He called on party members and supporters to intensify grassroots engagement, encourage eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and promote peaceful participation in the democratic process.

The Chairman of the Igbo-Agbowa Community Development Association (CDA), Alhaji Prince Ahmed Salami, expressed profound appreciation to Benson for responding to the community’s infrastructure needs through the construction of the Olu-Odo/Igbo-Agbowa Road. He described the project as a welcome intervention that would improve mobility, ease transportation difficulties and enhance commercial and social activities within the community.

Salami commended the lawmaker for demonstrating responsiveness to the concerns of residents, noting that good road infrastructure was essential to connecting communities to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other important services. While appreciating the completed project, he appealed for the second phase of the Lajo/Offin Road, explaining that its completion would complement the newly commissioned road and further strengthen connectivity among adjoining communities.

The CDA chairman also assured Benson and the APC leadership of the community’s readiness to participate actively in electoral mobilisation. He pledged to work with CDA members, community stakeholders, youth groups and other grassroots structures to sensitise residents, encourage PVC collection and promote peaceful and lawful participation in the forthcoming elections. He expressed optimism that the community would reciprocate the attention given to its developmental needs through increased political engagement and support for candidates committed to the welfare and advancement of the people.

The commissioning of the Olu-Odo/Igbo-Agbowa Road and six newly constructed roads in Solebo Estate therefore marked another milestone in the drive to improve infrastructure and promote grassroots development across Ikorodu Federal Constituency. Beyond their immediate benefits, the projects underscored the importance of responsive representation, sustained engagement with communities and the delivery of democratic dividends.

With further interventions announced by Benson and additional road projects requested by community leaders, the gathering reflected a shared expectation that development efforts would continue to reach more communities across Ikorodu. At the same time, the proposed 250,000-vote target featured prominently in discussions, with political leaders emphasising that its achievement would depend on unity, effective coordination, widespread grassroots mobilisation and active participation by party members.

For the benefiting communities, the roads represent opportunities for improved mobility, economic growth and better access to essential services. For political stakeholders, the event reinforced the need to translate development-focused engagement into meaningful democratic participation.

The consensus among the speakers was that sustained cooperation between elected representatives, party structures and residents would remain crucial to attracting further projects, strengthening community development and advancing the collective interests of Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
