FORMER H.O.S, PRINCE ADESEGUN OGUNLEWE BECOMES 'AREMO-OBA' OF IGBOGBO KINGDOM, RECEIVES BLESSINGS FROM ROYAL HEADS IN IKORODU DIVISION.

It was a historic day at the Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo on Sunday, August 18, 2019, when the former Head of Service, Lagos State, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, became the first AREMO-OBA of Igbogbo Kingdom. Prince Adesegun, who came to Palace for the installation/Iwuye ceremony of Alhaji (Prince) Adekunle Jinadu Esho as 'Ogbeni Oja' of Igbogboland, made the Aremo-Oba of Igbogbo Kingdom, in recognition of his invaluable service to Igbogboland, the entire Ikorodu Division and Lagos State at large.

The Odofin of Igbogboland, High Chief Tajudeen Alade Onasanya, said the choice of Aremo-Oba on Adesegun Ogunlewe was predicated on the need to continually recognise and compensate the Ogunlewe’s family for their vital roles in the sustenance and growth of Igbogbo community.

Tracing the contributions of the Ogunlewe family from the famous late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe, who was born in1898 in Igbogbo at the time when Colonial injustice and deprivation became obvious. He was generally regarded then as a man with the greatest intellect, peace, harmony and progress, which makes the people indicated him during his own tenure as a man who had the courage to restore the gradually fading glories of the land.

Late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe was installed as the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom on the 23rd of March, 1940. His primary duty then was the restoration of traditional values which the white man had come to substitute with Christianity. He was a member of the Lagos Colony Development Board, 1952-1954, he was a renowned Justice of Peace (JP) and Customary Judge, 1953-1957, he was appointed member of Western Nigeria House of Chiefs, 1956-1965, he was also an active member of the Lagos State Council of Oba and Chiefs, a position which gave Igbogbo Community added recognition and pride.

Odofin stated further: “A lot of people do not know that the Ogunlewes have contributed meaningfully well to the development of Igbogboland. That is why Oba Kasali approved the title on the highly respected Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, to compensate the family because of the contribution of the late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe to the development of Igbogboland.

His Royal Majesties, Oba (Barr) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba AbdulAkeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin kingdom, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, Olubeshe of Ibesheland and Oniraye of Iraye Remo in Ogun State were all pleased and endorsed Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe as Aremo-Oba of Igbogbo Kingdom and asked him to forward the Iwuye date as soon as possible.

Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini, Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Otunba (Sir) Ayodele Elesho, Oluomo of Igbogbo, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, Chief Sulaimon Ogidi, Dr Ogunlaja, Chief Olatunji Bakare, Chief Ihimire John, Mr Wale Obayomi, Alhaji Salisu Adebola, traditional Chiefs, Muslim and Christian leaders, CDAs, amongst others were in attendance.
