SENIOR CITIZEN BEMOANS THE DILAPIDATED STATE OF ROADS IN IKORODU, SAYS THE APEX APC LEADERS IN IKORODU DIVISION ARE FAILURES. ...Charges Royal Heads to wake-up on Lagos State Appointments.

The Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom and former Commissioner for Information, Otunba (Sir) Ayodele Elesho has bemoaned the dilapidated state of roads linking their various communities in Ikorodu Division. Elesho expressed frustration on the seeming neglects of Ikorodu Division in the provision of socio-economic amenities in Lagos State.

The Agbaakin revealed this at the Palace of Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, during the installation/Iwuye ceremony of Alhaji (Prince) Adekunle Jinadu Esho, as Ogbeni-Oja of Igbogboland. He decried the long delay in re-constructing the Igbogbo/Igbe road, Ishawo road, not forgetting Ijede road, Oba Molaja Ogunlewe road, Oreta/Offin road, Bayeku road and despite assurances from the State government, the senior citizen advised Ikorodu politicians to strive and keep to their promises.

"Let me advice politicians to be mindful of promises they make and try to keep them. After every term, they will go back to the people to seek their votes. We pray to God to give us good government and that's why we massively voted for Babajide Sanwoolu. There is seriously a lot of work to do in Ikorodu Division," he said.

Otunba Elesho, said the economic growth of Ikorodu Division had been adversely affected by bad intra and inter- community roads. He emphasized that while royal fathers cannot play politics, they have a duty to play for good governance.

He questioned the political leaders in Ikorodu Division on the recent nominees for State Cabinet, saying Ikorodu Division was not favoured again. The former Commissioner said the Party Leaders in the Division have no doubt compromised their sincerity and that they are nothing but failures.

He also pointed at many groups in Ikorodu Division, i.e, IKODASS, IDEA, COLID, RESOURCE GROUP, IJEDASS, amongst others. "I'd like all the Kings in Ikorodu Division to make use of the unity among them to harmonize the groups to one body, the groups are not as helpful and effective as it should be." He said.

HRM Oba AbdulAkeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbinland, responded and, asked those with sincere and genuine mind for Ikorodu Division to come together as one and meet with Ikorodu monarchs, for common objectives.

The Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Comrade Olusesan Daini also responded to Otunba Ayodele Elesho feelings on the state of Ikorodu roads, saying the bad roads are sub divided into two;
"Firstly, some houses/buildings were demolished and the government promised to compensate all the affected people which hasn't being fulfill, but the government has made a promise to compensate and start the construction of roads as promised before the turn of a new year.

"Secondly, the roads cannot be done alone by the LCDA, as it's not a project to embark on by the Council. We wrote to the Public Works and they demanded all that drainage on both sides of the road should work. We did as required and we only waiting for the Public Work to commenced work on the roads," he said.

"There is a large-scale complaint that in many places, the streets and roads are not maintained properly, both the people and the Government have a responsibility in maintaining the streets and roads in good condition .

"We will continue to pursue people oriented programmes for the betterment of our people that we are serving .I enjoin you all to continue to give us the best critique and also the best advice to move our local government and State forward," Daini added.
