Ijede Community was on Friday agog when the people from all works of life assembled on Friday to celebrate and rejoice with the Founder and CEO of Starlight Newspaper, on the 15th anniversary of his media outlet.
Speaking at the event, the founder, Damola Aderibigbe, expressed joy and gives glory to God for the journey so far. “We are delighted to celebrate the 15th year of delivering prompt and accurate information to our numerous readers. Starlight has significantly expanded its scope in recognising prominent personalities who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Ikorodu Division, by organizing different Awards.
"As we are taking to another milestone, we will continue to explore new ideas to be at the forefront of providing quality information to our people,” he said.
In his eloquent remarks, the Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Comrade Fatiu Salisu, applauded the resilient of Damola in the field of journalism. He stated that after fifteen years of starting the Starlight newspaper, the media has grown tremendously and promoted the image of Ijede Community positively.
According to him, "community newspaper is the most powerful weapon in the world because of its proximity to the people."
He added that globally, the media survive on government advertisement and as such, the people of Ijede LCDA, particularly Ikorodu Division should always consider the local media in Ikorodu Division in terms of advertisement and other patronages.
Also speaking at the 15th anniversary, was the Publisher and founder of MegaXpression Community Magazine, Mr Shakiru Seidu, who hailed Damola Aderibigbe for his consistency and passion for Community journalism in the past fifteen years.
"Since Journalism has been proliferated, professionals must set a standard for themselves by being responsible in their duties," Seidu said. He opined that to strengthened Nigeria democracy, and community journalism to be greatly developed.
He further enjoined Community Journalists to be objective and apolitical. "It is expected of media practitioners to right something that can stand the test of time sighting publisher of Oriwu Sun who has never written a rejoinder in his 35 years of community journalism as good example.
"Community media exist with code of ethics and anyone venturing into the profession must adhere to its standing rules, he added.
