SANWO-OLU'S CPS RECEIVES COMPASS EXECUTIVE, REITERATES HARMONIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH COMMUNITY MEDIA. | Shakiru Seidu. Giving timely and accurate information on the programmes and policies of Sanwo-Olu to the grassroots is sacrosanct, says COMPASS President.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Mr Gboyega Akosile, was on Friday, September 13, 2019, received the executive members of Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS), in a courtesy visit.
The President of the Association, 'Tayo Aderinola, while making his remark, revealed that the essence of the visit is to fraternize with the right source from where the association will be able to contribute immensely to the Administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where and when necessary.
The President further revealed that COMPASS is aimed at bridging the information link between the people in the grassroots and government by providing timely and accurate information on the programmes and policies of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu's Administration.
"We are here in official capacity to give our supports to the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu by creating cordial relationship with the hope that he will reciprocate with good gesture
"Giving advertisement and organizing a symbiosm relationship will no doubt be beneficial to both parties, as this will bring about good service delivery from government to the people and the feedback from the people to government thereby stands as the intermediary between them".
In his response, Akosile thanked the Executive of COMPASS for the visit, and applauded the roles the of Community Media in the society. He assured for a cordial relationship to make community media one of his top priorities, so as to ensure information about the working and functions of government gets to the people at the grassroots.
"Working with COMPASS is a strategic way of reaching the people at the grassroots, if I truly want them to know what governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is doing. Until we go into community journalism, we'll not communicate with the grassroots adequately and fortunately, they have online presence and offline platforms with a focused specifically on grassroots," he said.
"Community media is like Police and any government of a state or country that fails to align with police is playing with fire when talking of community and crime. So, community media is very important as far as this government is concerned", Akosile added.
As a mark of honor to congratulate the media icon on his new appointment, a specially handmade designed Card was presented to him while he appreciated the COMPASS Executive for the good gesture.
