CORONAVIRUS: FEDERAL LAWMAKER COUNSELS RESIDENTS OF IKORODU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, SAYS NIGERIA WILL PREVAIL.

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson, has advised his constituents not to dismiss the dangers posed by the suspected presence of the deadly coronavirus in the state. Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency of Lagos State, gave the advice on Tuesday in Ikorodu, in a statement made available to MegaXpression Community News.

He encouraged his constituents and the residents of Lagos State at large to heed the expert advice of regular washing of hands with soap, social distancing and the use of hand sanitisers.

JB, as he's fondly called, urged his constituents to avoid gatherings that were more than 20, pending when a vaccine would be developed for the coronavirus which had assumed pandemic status across the world.

According to him, "In the past few weeks, we have witnessed a dangerous increase in the spread of COVID-19, also known as Corona Virus, all over the world. This increase has now gotten to a pandemic level. Prior to this time, many assumed that it was a foreign phenomenon we are immuned against.

"The current reality, however, is that it has landed on our shores with more people testing positive to the virus in Nigeria. Just as we are all worried about this devastating development that is threatening our collective existence, I want to assure the good people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency that we shall overcome this difficult time".
While applauding the efforts of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Benson enjoined residents to adhere strictly to warnings and directives of the government. He enjoined all to wash their hands regularly and maintain certain level of distance when engaging with other people.

“The government at all levels are doing everything and in constant collaboration with international and local health agencies, to ensure the eradication of this apparent danger. Thorough washing of hands with soap and use of alcohol based sanitizers as well as Social distancing have been advised as effective means of ending the spread.

“I humbly appeal to everyone to adhere strictly to all guidelines and health protocols being issued by the government and medical experts. Every measure is necessary at this time to end this scourge. Non-essential travel and meetings should be put on hold", he said.

The lawmaker appealed to persons who feel sick to visit the hospital immediately and anyone who is suspected of having symptoms of the virus be reported to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) through the dedicated lines in circulation.

He also counselled his constituents to avoid travels that were not compulsory, particularly inter-state journeys in order to avoid having body contacts with carriers of the deadly disease.

Benson further appealed to parents in Ikorodu Federal Constituency to ensure that their children and wards whose schools had been shut down on the instruction of the Lagos State Government were kept indoors.

“I want to commend the State Government ably led by the Incident Commander, Mr Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, our Local Government Chairmen, Traditional institutions and various religious groups in Ikorodu Division for the continuous sensitization whilst looking forward to full compliance by everyone," he added.

The erudite  Legislator later charged his constituents to contact the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, via their toll-free number: 080097000010, SMS: 08099555577 and E-mail: info@ncdc.gov.ng
