LASPOTECH 27TH COMBINED CONVOCATION CEREMONY: 598 STUDENTS TO BAG DISTINCTIONS AS 16,315 STUDENTS GRADUATE ON MARCH 12. They're well groomed, adequately trained and highly enterprising graduands, School Rector, Mr Samuel Sogunro reveals.

A total of 598 of 16,315 graduating students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, will be awarded Distinctions during the Combined 27th Convocation Ceremony, representing the highest figure produced by the institution in its 43 years of existence. Also, 5,322 students with Upper Credit, 8,268 students with Lower Credit and 2,117 with Pass Classification. 

The School Rector, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro, who disclosed this to MegaXpression  Community News and other media outlets on Thursday ahead of the institution’s 27th combined Convocation ceremony billed to commence on Thursday, March 5, 2020, said the institution will confer honorary fellowship Awards on two eminent personalities, present a total number of 16,315 well-groomed, adequately-trained and highly-enterprising graduands.

According to Sogunro, "it is my pleasure to inform you that, on Thursday, 12th March, 2020, the Polytechnic will confer honorary fellowship awards of two eminent personalities, namely: Aare Afe Babalola [SAN], CON, founder, Afe Babalola University and Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa, Chairman, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, and former Lagos state Head of Service. These two distinguished personalities have proven to be sources of inspiration worthy of emulation.

"Other events of the 27th Combined  convocation include:

i.  An inter- denominational Thanksgiving Service, Thursday, 5th March, 2020, by 1:00pm at school of Agriculture 500-seater Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus.

ii. Convocation Jumat Service, schedule to hold on Friday, 6th March, 2020, at Ikorodu Campus Mosque, by 1:00pm.

iii. The 27th convocation Dinner/Variety show on Saturday, 7th March,2020 at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja by 5:00pm.

iv. There will be football Match at the Ikorodu campus football field, by 10:00am prompt.

v. Monday 9th March, 2020 has scheduled for students programme, as a Convocation Drama will be taking place at the centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition [CESA], Ikorodu Campus, by 1:00pm.

vi. An Exhibition has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 10th March, 2020, at the School of Agriculture Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus, by 10:00am.

vii. The 27th Combined Convocation Lecture will hold same day [10th March] at the school of Agriculture Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus by 12:00noon. 

"The topic of the Lecture is 'Infrastructural Deficit and Technology Development in Nigeria: The Role of Technical Education', to be delivered by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"On Thursday, 12th March, 2020, the Polytechnic of excellence will present a total number of 16,315 Well-groomed, adequately-trained and highly-enterprising graduands who have completed their National Diploma [ND] and Higher National Diploma [HND] programmes in various disciplines needed for the Nation's socio-economic development, and have acquired at least a vocational skills each at the centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition [CESA], he explained.

Sogunro further acknowledged the immense support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for bringing to an end, the six-month-long industrial crisis, which engulfed the Polytechnic in 2019. "I also acknowledge the support of the Deputy Governor, Speaker and Honourable members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Head of Service, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, body of Permanent Secretaries and MDAs, most especially the office of the Special Adviser on Education [OSAE] family, who are always there for us," he added.

He therefore appealed to Lagos State government not to relent in its support to the institution toward the actualisation of these need based programmes.

While responding to brief interview by MegaXpression Community News, Sogunro revealed that Lagos State Polytechnic is a school of international standard, saying it is basically conceived to train young Nigerians and international Community to attain their full potentials and develop cutting-edge insights and foresight needed to perform at their vintage best in their future careers and to be a positive influence in the society.

He appreciated the members of the immediate past Governing Council, Management, Academic Board, Staff and Students of the Polytechnic for their cooperation and support in the last fifty seven (57) months.
