FEDERAL LAWMAKER TRAINS YOUTHS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP, LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES IN IKORODU. It's aimed at helping youths to stand on their feet; be independent and self-reliant, Hon. Babajimi Benson reveals.
No fewer than 100 Youths from Ikorodu federal Constituency, have been trained on entrepreneurship and leadership development. MegaXpression Community News, reports that the training was initiated and organised by Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson, representing Ikorodu federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training at Funcity Hall in Ikorodu on Saturday, Benson, who partnered with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally displaced persons to train the set of second batch, said the aim of the programme was to empower youths of Ikorodu federal Constituency with knowledge on good leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
“The training is to impact knowledge in the youths on principles of good leadership and entrepreneurship. This is to help them stand on their feet; be independent and self-reliant instead of waiting for government jobs,’’ the erudite Legislator said.
He added that the core objective of the programme was also to change the mindset of youths who relied on white collar jobs for survival. According to JB, the era for acquiring knowledge to get monthly paid jobs was over, hence, the need for parents and government to put more emphasis on entrepreneurship education for sustainable development.
While addressing the participants ealier, the DG, iCARE Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, said an entrepreneur should be an original thinker, risk takers, who take responsibility for own actions, feel competent and capable and someone that can set high goals and enjoy working towards them. He charged the youth to identify any opportunities that come their ways by knowing the skill they are good at, looking within their own life for problems to solve and solving problems of family and friends are having.
Sanwoola further stated that a successful entrepreneurs must be creative and innovative, create new products, create new processes and create new delivery. "An entrepreneur fails when the owner lack managerial skill, fail to plan and prepare, poor money and managers.
Also, another guest lecturer, Mr Scott Ikporo enjoined the participants to love their products, love the job you're doing. "Always do a business analysis and business plan, speak with experts concerning your investment because business always break even. Until you finish servicing your loan, you can't conclude you have made profit," Ikporo said.
The training ends with presentation of certificates by Hon Benson with take-off fund for all the participants.
