HON. BENSON EMPOWERS HUNDREDS WITH SKILLS, START-UPS DRIVE IN IKORODU. ...says it's aimed at making constituents self reliant, self sufficient.

The House of Representatives member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Hon. Babajimi Adekoge Benson has again organized Skills Acquisition training in conjunction with Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, for some members of his constituency. 

The 250 beneficiaries, who are predominately women and youths from different religious groups, CDAs, market women, political circuit, Artisans, amongst the rest across Ikorodu Division, were given reasonable start-up capital and certificates at a graduating ceremony held at Funcity Complex, in Ikorodu.

The one week intensive training which was arranged in batches to observe the Social distancing and maximum of 20 people per gathering, to forestall the spreading of Coronavirus Pandemic, saw the 250 students graduated in different areas of skills acquisition such as; Hand Sanitisers, liquid Soap, Paint making, Air freshener, among others.

Speaking with MegaXpression Community News correspondent, the DG of iCARE Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, said the programme is aimed at encouraging the youths, women and men of Ikorodu federal Constituency in taking up their own business in the drive towards self reliance and reduction of unemployment in the society.

Also, Hon Benson, in his remarks insisted that the exercise became important due to economic realities of the day and the need to explore other skills for diversifying the economy and reduce unemployment in the state.

He disclosed that his target was to make the youths self-reliant and employers of labour rather than job seekers, noting that the most successful men and women all over the world had their roots in small-scale business even as he urged them to take advantage of the exercise and equip themselves financially.

“I therefore urged you to take the advantage of the programme to equip yourselves against economic realities caused by the dwindling oil revenues in the country,” the erudite Legislator, Babajimi Benson, advised participants.

Hon. Benson has also promised to patronize the participants by purchasing hand sanitisers from them after producing. He said this to prevent his constituents from being contacted in the global Coronavirus Pandemic.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Kuburat Bolowotan thanked the lawmaker for the privilege. She assured the lawmaker of their determinations to used their experiences and what they learned at the exercise to be self-relient.

Also, Mr Adesanya Tejumola from Ikorodu said: “I am very grateful to God and Hon Babajimi Benson for this wonderful opportunity. I am happy today.”

Miss Adijat Odusanya from Imota, said that leaning more on soap making would take her work to higher ground. According to her, "this gesture will help me to do more jobs and train more people".
