The joyfulness of Royal Heads, Chiefs, and residents of Ikorodu Division knew no bound on Thursday, December 16, 2021, when the people of the Division, from far and near, came together to celebrate one of their identities, 'ASA AROKOLO'. 

It was described as a beautiful sociocultural heritage of decades which usually harmonize the good people of Ikorodu Division in the good old days, MegaXpression Media gathered.

The gradual extinction of this 'ASA AROKOLO' has been salvaged by the Sponsor, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade, who's the Majority leader, Lagos State House of Assembly and Opomulero of Ikorodu Kingdom, in a bid to restore the emblem that unites the people of Ikorodu Division.

The 2021 Edition of the Carnival has again witnessed another large crowd, as the Ikorodu Town Hall was filled to maximum capacity. The event which was anchored by a renowned Radio Presenter, Chief Gbenga Odumosu Eweso and Mr Oladega, a MC per excellent, had in attendance, the presence of Royal Heads from Yoruba land other distinguished personalities.

Amongst which are His Royal Majesties, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Agoro, Ranodu of Imota, Oba (Barr.) AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba of Poka in Epe, Oba Elemoro, Oba Bashir Aremu Sotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Raji Kayode, Eweye of Isiwu, Oba Ojora of Ijora, and other Royal Heads from Ijebuland.

Others are Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN, Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Hon Nurudeen Sholaja-Saka, Member Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Uzamat Akinbile Yusuf, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Sen Adeseye Ogunlewe, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Hon. (Mrs) Adebimpe Akinsola, Majority Leaders from Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti and Oyo States.

Also, the wife of the Majority Leader of Lagos State, Alhaja Tairat Agunbiade and other members of Lagos State Legislators' wife Association, LASLEWA, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Otunba Ganiu Olusegun Abiru, Hon. Sulaimon Olanrewaju of Ikorodu West LCDA, Otunba Waliu Daisi, Council of traditional Chiefs from Ikorodu Division, APC Stewarts amongst other social groups.

Guests were kept entertained with different activities displayed at the Carnival, where Horses rides, ASA AROKOLO from Isele, Ijomu, Igbogbo, Okeletu, Imowo-Nla, Agura and Aga entertained with colourful parades.

Speaking with MegaXpression Media, the Sponsor, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, thanked the Royal Heads for their immense supports and contributions, alongside with the good people of Ikorodu Division, who stood firm with the team to achieve this far. He emphasized the festival as a means to celebrate and further understand Ikorodu's value and Heritage. 

Agunbiade described ASA AROKOLO as one of the rich cultural heritage in Ikorodu Division and how Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi and other traditional Heads in the Division had been supporting him in his quest to bring back the community's values and norms.

"The worst thing that can happen to a man is for him to be told of his own history. ASA is our culture, it's an heritage made for fun and fiesta, it isn’t a deity, this makes it a festival that either christian, Muslim or traditionalists could be part of.

“Asa Festival is to preserve the cultural heritage of our land in Ikorodu Division, so we want the Ministry of Art and Culture to give us more support,” Agunbiade said, advising youths to see ASA AROKOLO as part of their heritage that must not be allowed to die.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Hon. Uzamat Akinbile Yusuf, emphasized in her eloquent remarks, the needs to promote Yoruba language and culture. She called for extensive use of Yoruba language among the people of Lagos State in order to continue to propagate Yoruba culture.

Ealier, the IREP Chairman, Otunba Dare Odufowokan, said to MegaXpression Media that IREP of Hon. Agunbiade is the master minder of ASA AROKOLO carnival, applauding all who made this year's edition a huge success.

Thereafter, a Fuji music Star, Alhaji Sulaimon Also Malaika, entertained guests with melodious music, while guests were being served with varieties of food.
