The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has launched a measles-rubella vaccination campaign, emphasising the importance of protecting children against preventable diseases.
The flag-off, which took place on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at the Primary Health Centre, Igbogbo, was part of the Lagos State–wide introduction of the Measles–Rubella vaccine into the Routine Immunisation Programme. The initiative targets children between the ages of nine months and 14 years, with the aim of preventing outbreaks of highly contagious but preventable diseases and strengthening community-level health protection.
The vaccination exercise reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to child health and disease prevention, while underscoring IBLCDA’s resolve to ensure that state-led health interventions translate into real impact at the grassroots.
At the state level, the programme was earlier launched by the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who emphasised the importance of immunisation as a cornerstone of public health. She urged parents and caregivers across the state to embrace the exercise and support health officials to achieve maximum coverage.
Speaking at the IBLCDA flag-off ceremony, the Vice Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Barrister Ade Ayeni, who represented the Executive Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, described the exercise as a practical expression of the administration’s commitment to people-centred governance and preventive healthcare.
He noted that under Chairman Aroyewun’s leadership, health interventions remain a top priority, in line with the Optimal Wellness component of the GLORY Agenda, which focuses on strengthening primary healthcare, disease prevention, and access to quality health services for residents.
The Medical Officer of Health, Dr Gideon Akande, assured parents and guardians of the safety and effectiveness of the Measles–Rubella vaccine, explaining that it is globally approved and critical to preventing serious health complications in children. He reiterated that immunisation remains one of the most effective tools for reducing child morbidity and mortality.
Also speaking, Dr Saheed Atolagbe of the Department of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Lagos State Ministry of Health, disclosed that the campaign is supported by robust planning, monitoring frameworks, and data-driven implementation strategies to ensure seamless delivery across all LGAs and LCDAs.
To guarantee effective coverage within Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, trained and well-equipped health personnel have been deployed to primary health centres and designated community locations throughout the council area for the duration of the campaign.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Hakeem Solawon; Majority Leader, Hon. Habib Anifowose; Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Yusuf Bello; Chief Whip, Hon. Saidat Adeoba; Hon. Wasiu Olowu, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman; representatives of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, led by Chief Sanni Jelili (Ayangaade), alongside members of the Adeboruwa-in-Council; the Iyalode of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Mrs Ojikutu Karimotu; community leaders; and other key stakeholders.
The successful commencement of the Measles–Rubella vaccination exercise in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA reinforces the Chairman Aroyewun–led administration’s commitment to Optimal Wellness, while strengthening collaboration with the Lagos State Government to secure a healthier and safer future for children across the community.
