AROYEWUN LEADS ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION DRIVE, AS COUNCIL EVACUATES REFUSE HOTSPOTS IN IGBOGBO/ BAYEKU LCDA. ...Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping.
The Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has taken a hands-on approach to environmental management. The exercise was carried out Tuesday, January 27, by the Department of Environmental Health Service, followed a clear directive from the Chairman, as part of his administration’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier LCDA.
The intervention focused on long-standing refuse hotspots that pose risks to residents’ well-being and undermine the aesthetic outlook of the area.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, the Chief of Staff, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, underscored the damaging effects of refuse blackspots on both the environment and community life. He called on residents to see environmental cleanliness as a shared civic responsibility and urged them to report individuals who flout environmental laws by dumping refuse along roads on open lands or in public spaces.
Olowu further appealed to residents to take ownership of their immediate surroundings and to promptly alert the Council to any environmental concerns. He assured the public that the Council remains accessible and responsive to complaints, feedback, and suggestions, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to partner with the community in building a cleaner and more livable Igbogbo/ Baiyeku LCDA.
Meanwhile, the Head of Environmental Health Service, Mrs. Akindunbi Comfort, while addressing officers and community members during the exercise, expressed concern over the growing trend of indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly the conversion of undeveloped pieces of land into illegal dumpsites. She warned that such practices expose residents to avoidable health hazards and stressed that the clearance of these blackspots remains a practical step toward curbing environmental abuse.
Akindunbi also commended the Chairman for his proactive leadership, reiterating that a clean environment is fundamental to a healthy society.
