In a significant move towards greater political cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent Leaders of the Mandate Movement (TMM) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Division, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, converged at the residence of former Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Senator (Otunba) Adeseye Ogunlewe, in Igbogbo, where they reached a far-reaching agreement to strengthen unity, deepen grassroots mobilisation and pursue a common electoral strategy.
The meeting, described by participants as a major step towards political reconciliation and consolidation in the division, resolved to build an “unbreakable unity and synergy” among the various political tendencies, with an ambitious target of delivering 250,000 votes from Ikorodu Federal Constituency for the APC in the forthcoming elections.
At the heart of the deliberations on Wednesday was the need to move beyond political structures on paper and establish a formidable grassroots machinery capable of reaching every polling unit across Ikorodu Division.
The leaders agreed to harmonise and consolidate the various local government lists into a unified structure, while a Technical Committee was constituted to develop and coordinate the implementation of the resolutions reached at the meeting.
A significant feature of the meeting was the renewed understanding between Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe and Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya, as both leaders agreed to work together in the collective interest of the APC and the development of Ikorodu Division.
The agreement was seen as a major boost to the ongoing efforts to consolidate political leadership and eliminate divisions capable of weakening the party's grassroots structure.
The stakeholders agreed that the emerging synergy must translate into practical political action, with every ward and polling unit expected to become an active centre of mobilisation.
The meeting adopted an ambitious 250,000-vote target, with participants stressing that the figure could only be achieved through painstaking grassroots engagement, voter mobilisation and effective coordination.
Consequently, the leaders agreed to intensify massive PVC Collection, while encouraging eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the election. They further resolved to establish a strong mobilisation network across every polling unit in Ikorodu Division, with clear targets and responsibilities for political actors at the grassroots. The objective, according to the meeting, is to ensure that the political strength of Ikorodu is fully translated into actual votes on election day.
The meeting also resolved to take the message and achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Lagos State Governorship candidate Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos East Senatorial Candidate, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru FCA, House of Reps Candidate, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson MHR, Lagos Assembly Candidates, Prince Toyin Gafaar and Hon Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA), directly to the grassroots.
The TMM group, while canvassing support for President Tinubu, stressed the importance of communicating the achievements and reform agenda of the administration to voters in a language and manner that resonates with ordinary Nigerians.
The group highlighted the need to project the Renewed Hope Agenda, economic reforms, infrastructure development, social intervention programmes, youth empowerment and other government initiatives, while urging party leaders to remain united and disciplined in taking the message to the people.
The leaders maintained that the 2027 election would require more than rallies and political statements, insisting on door-to-door engagement, polling-unit mobilisation, voter sensitisation and sustained grassroots communication.
Speaking with Shakiru Moritan Seidu of the MegaXpression Media on the renewed collaboration, Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya emphasised that the emerging synergy should not be regarded as an arrangement designed only for the 2027 elections.
He said the cooperation among the leaders must be sustained beyond the election, describing the unity as an opportunity to build a stronger political and developmental future for Ikorodu Division. Kaoli's position reinforced the general mood of the meeting, which was anchored on unity, inclusiveness, mutual respect and collective responsibility.
Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, in his remarks, assured stakeholders that the emerging political arrangement would be inclusive, with no individual or group left behind. He emphasised that the benefits and dividends of the collective political effort must be shared fairly, assuring stakeholders of a sense of belonging in the new dispensation.
According to him, Ikorodu's political strength would become even more formidable when leaders work together and subordinate individual interests to the collective interest of the Division. Ogunlewe called for commitment, discipline and unity as the party moves towards the 2027 electoral contest.
The meeting attracted a strong representation of political leaders and community stakeholders, including Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya; Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade; Hon. Nurudeen Sholaja; Hon. Fatai Olukoga; Alhaji De Cubano; Hon. Lanre Balogun; Hon. Anifowoshe; Hon. Gbenga Basanya; Hon. Jide Banjoko; Alhaji Sefiu Lobito; Prince Hakeem Awosanya; Alhaji R.I. Jinodu; Comrade Kehinde Okeowo; Mr. Yemisi Odusoga; Mr. Muhydeen; Chief Ayo-Ola; Hon Azeez Olosugbo, among other notable leaders and stakeholders.
With the resolutions reached at the meeting, stakeholders believe Ikorodu may be witnessing the emergence of a more coordinated political framework ahead of 2027. From unity to polling-unit mobilisation, PVC collection to voter engagement, and leadership cooperation to a 250,000-vote target, the message from the Igbogbo meeting was clear: the leaders are seeking to transform political unity into an organised grassroots movement capable of delivering electoral victory for the APC.
