Abiru, who was ably represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole Olayiwola, popularly known as 'De-Groom', affirmed that the Association’s main goal is to make Ikorodu Oga Day compete with the likes of notable others.

He reiterated that the Association’s objective is not only to organise the Ikorodu Oga Day, but to continuing carrying out total re-packaging and rebranding of Ikorodu to suit recent developments in Lagos State and the world.

According to him, De-Groom reiterated that this years event will base on the prevailing circumstance not only in Nigeria but all over the world. "The Ikorodu oga day ceremony is a yearly event and this will be the 29th edition in which the yearly event has assumed a wider dimension and it is indeed part of tourist attraction, not only in Ikorodu kingdom but also in Lagos state.

"I want to use this medium to thank the indigene and non indigene who have since the inception of yearly cultural activities been extending their moral and financial support to the success we have been recording in hosting the event," Olayiwola said.

He further stated that, "flowing with the public announcement made by the association, this year's event based on the prevailing circumstance not only in Nigeria but all over the world will be marked on relatively lowkey unlike the previous years, this year will be without the usual glitz and glamour.

"The event will be marked with three events to keep the spirit of celebration alive which involve commissioning of borehole/ generators for three primary school, provision of uniforms/ bursary for indigene pupils within Ikorodu community and public lecture with a theme entitled "Ikorodu double pursuit of Socio Economic and Political relevance which will be held on 21st of November, 2020 at Ikorodu town hall.

"The effects of pandemic Covid-19 have been overwhelming. The disease has redefined our socio economic and even political lives and therefore our theme for this year event had been carefully chosen sync with the mood of the nation. Culture should not be viewed from the narrow perspective as culture is all embracing and defines the totality of our being.

"People think when we talk of culture, it Is restricted to dancing, drumming and showcasing our deities of a given community, but it is in culture that ordinance and regulations are laid down for the social life of the community.

"It is our belief that a reversion to our culture in terms of cleanliness, obeisance to authority regulation, good neighbourliness, love to mention a few will eventually bring about an end to the scourge. It is an institution at enhancing and upholding our culture, we will in our effort continue to agitate for accelerated development of our community through our cultural heritage," the Deputy Chairman, Fatai Olayiwola explained.

Also speaking with MegaXpression News shortly after the press briefing was the P.R.O, IKODASS, Prine Adekunle Eniola Bada, who eloquently revealed that this year's edition is equally aimed at grooming the youths, so as to encourage them in channeling their strength towards the upliftment of Ikorodu Division.

He therefore urged Ikorodu indigenes both home and abroad to make this year's  celebration a huge success.
