The Chairman/CEO, Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Saturday, January 8, donated baby items and cash to mothers who just gave birth to babies at Ikorodu General Hospital, reiterating that the gesture is part of her efforts to support mothers and babies by caring for their needs, health and general living conditions, MegaXpression Media was there.
The packs donated by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa led foundation includes baby colts, towels, wipes, diapers, moisturizers, clothes, feeding bottles among other items and cash to about 20 mothers in the hospital.

While responding to MegaXpression Media, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said her Foundation has decided to focus on improving the infant and maternal mortality rate in Nigeria. "We are concerned about the state of living conditions of our mothers and their babies and we want to see how we can be of assistance to them,” she opined.
Dabiri-Erewa said the birth of a child required that the mother is adequately taken care of, to ensure that she got skilled care during labour and delivery, adding that the birth of a child brings good fortune to a society and not by chance.
The former Lawmaker commended the Medical Director, Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr. Taiwo Hassan and his team for their relentless efforts in rendering effective services to patients. She advised nursing mothers to live a healthy lifestyle that would guarantee the wellbeing of their babies.

In his eloquent remarks, the Medical Director, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, commended the donor, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa Foundation, thanking the group for the kind gesture which will be of immense use to mothers. Hassan however, called on other well-meaning organisations and indigenes of Ikorodu to emulate Hon. Dabiri-Erewa’s thoughtful gesture by supporting the hospital in its efforts to give their best.
He applauded Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa for showing commitment to the health of the mothers and babies, noting the significance of the noble gesture.
“It is still very sad that some people still lose their lives during child birth, because they either don’t have access to medical care or end up in the hands of quacks.
“We will continue do more to reduce maternal mortality through provision of basic healthcare, renew infrastructure and increased human capacity,” Dr. Hassan stated.
