It was indeed a day of reckoning, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, during the formal handing over ceremony of 2-Unit 100-Bed Hostel Facility, to Lagos State Civil Service Model College Igbogbo, built and donated by the Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family of Igbogbo.
In his welcome address, the APC Chieftain and former Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, stated that the edifice of 100-Bed space capacity twin hostel, is donated to the Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo, by the Fadugba-Ogunlewe Family to honour their late Patriarchs, Amos Olugbosi Ogunlewe and Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe.
Sen. Ogunlewe reiterated that the edifice will no doubt immortalise the achievements of their late fathers, both of whom he described as the vanguard of Western education.
He said, “We are the vanguard of Western education in Igbogbo Kingdom and it is good to revisit some of the achievements in this regard. It is necessary to immortalise their worthy achievements by erecting edifice in their names for future generations."
"While Amos Olugbosi was the first indigene of Igbogbo to receive formal education, Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe was the first educated Monarch in the entire Lagos Colony during his reign. He was also instrumental to the establishment of the Lagos Colony Teachers College, now Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo where the dormitories are being built," Senator Ogunlewe narrated.
The handing over ceremony was fixed for Saturday, November 2, to also commemorate the 89th Birthday of the Olori-Ebi Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family, Prince (Dr.) Akinola Ajose Ogunlewe. Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe is the Chairman of the Steering Committee of Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family, while Mr Idris Adesina is the Secretary.
While addressing the gathering, the Olori-Ebi of Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family, Prince (Dr.) Akinola Ajose Ogunlewe, thanked all guests for honouring their invitation, particularly the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo and Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdoms.
The Birthday Celebrant, said the edifice was able to achieve due to the effective collaboration and love among the family. He therefore promised to give One Million Naira and maintain the two edifice for the next one year, while stating that the Principals should always present their maintenance needs on the facility to him, as at when due, through Aremo (Prince) Adesegun Ogunlewe.
In his eloquent remarks, the Commissioner for Basic & Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, who represented the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, lauded the family’s commitment to the educational development of Igbogbo and Ikorodu Division in general.
He equally expressed appreciation to Ikorodu Educational Division Stakeholders, Teachers and Students for making the District proud, noting that Ikorodu had been the most dedicated zone of all, in Lagos State.
"Ikorodu have been doing greatly while the Government is also putting up its best for prompt salary packages for its Staff in Lagos State. Aside that, there is need to do more for better service delivery. The Lagos State Government has completed one block of classrooms in three different schools each in Ikorodu, and to be commissioned very soon," Alli-Balogun revealed.
In the same vein, the Senator, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru FCA, also charged the students to draw inspiration from what the Fadugba-Ogunlewe Royal Family has done, noting that learning can happen anywhere, even out of the classroom.
Abiru, who was ably represented by his Special Adviser, Dr. Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, commended the Fadugba family for this great gesture, while presented two computers for the best Students, to aid their academic studies.
Meanwhile, the erudite Lawmaker and Chairman House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson MHR, whom today donated 7-digit Naira to support the family, also commended the Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family, for the wonderful project, while enjoining the students to make use of the facility with care.
Benson, who was ably represented by the Principal, LASU International College, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo, said government cannot do it alone, therefore, there is need for more collaborative efforts from the people.
Also, the host Chairman, Builder Olusesan Daini, Chairman Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, applauded the Fadugba Ogunlewe family for the great achievement. He said his government is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure better education for the Pupils, adding that he has been able to increase the number of primary schools in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA from 12 to 15.
Daini further thanked the PS Education District II, Mrs Anike Adekanye, and Commissioner Tolani Alli-Balogun, for being supportive in his requests. He thereafter promised to support the over 800 students of the Lagos State Civil Service Model College (both junior and senior), a pack of 4 exercise books with biro, pencil and mathematical sets.
In his royal remarks, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, equally thanked the Fadugba Ogunlewe family, for the 2-Unit 100-Bed Hostel Facility, adding that history will never forget them.
The Monarch enjoined the teachers and students to make proper use of the edifice. He urged the government to help look more into the recent development, on the increase of the boarding schools, referencing to a matter brought to his palace by some Parents.
Also, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, said in royal remarks, the reasons while government needs to engage the Kings by giving them a responsibility.
Oba Shotobi expressed delight over the donated edifice by the Fadugba Ogunlewe Royal Family, while charging the students and the Staff to make proper use of the Edifice.
