In a display of gratitude and solidarity, the Adeboruwa -in-Council, under the able leadership of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, has embarked on a visit to former SSG and Member, Governance Advisory Council, GAC, Asiwaju Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, to appreciate his worthy gesture of donating his Company's land, ROMO Nig. Limited, and facilitating a 40-Bed Public Health Center PHC to Igbogbo community.
The visit was attended by notable traditional Chiefs in Igbogboland, led by the Odofin of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Tajudeen Alade Onasanya, Chief Otunba Odugbose, Chief Oluwo Ayanilowo, Chief Balogun Jelili Oduntan, Chief Apena Yaya Agoro, Iyalode Karimot Ojikutu, among other Chiefs, with Baales from Bayeku, Offin, Oreta, Igbe Laara, Igbe Dehinde, and others.
Speaking on behalf of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Odofin Tajudeen Onasanya, applauded Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun's kind gesture, adding that Basorun’s dedication and tireless efforts served as a shining example of effective leadership and invaluable role of a pragmatic political leader in the progress of Igbogbo community, citing Basorun's commitment to the community development, as the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom.
As Yoruba adage says: 'O ku, ni'bon nro', Chief Odofin pleaded with Basorun to help enforce more pressure on government, for the completion of Igbogbo/ Bola Ahmed Tinubu/ Igbe Road Construction, noting that the pains and hardship that the Afa spot has brought to the people is huge.
In his eloquent remarks, the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, expressed joy and satisfaction towards the visit, adding that their presence exemplified the united front, leaving no doubt about the collective dedication to the progress and betterment of Igbogbo Kingdom.
Basorun gave gratitude to God and more so, to late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe, for mentoring him dearly from his youthful age, and putting him through so many things, when it's comes to Igbogbo community.
"Myself, late Ogunlaja and late Oba Ogunlewe, were the trio that signed, before Ikorodu to Igbogbo road was constructed in 1970 by late Mobolaji Johnson. We used to trek from Igbogbo to Ikorodu before. This was the main reason we named the road after late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe.
"Also, When Chief Obafemi Awolowo was looking for where to locate Teachers College, he approached late Oba Ogunlewe and the King grabbed the opportunity. Today, it has been a place to reckon with. It is no doubt, a clear fact that late Oba Festus Molaja Ogunlewe has really tried for Igbogbo community," Basorun revealed.
He further narrated that Igbogbo community has truly favoured him since his birth in 1938. "After God, Igbogbo is next in my heart, and if I'm to add to my name, I would have preferred 'Igbogbogbemiga, Igbogbosanmi, or Igbogbogbeminiyi', Asiwaju opined.
Narrating what prompted the donation of land, 'Baba Aladura', as Basorun fondly called, said he took advantage of Hon. Orelope's visit to him, which eventually comes to a reality.
"Hon. Adejoke Orelope came to visit me at home for my birthday in April 2024, because she was unable to attend my birthday thanksgiving in October 2023. I made used of the opportunity to request for Hospital and she promised to give 40-Bed Public Health Center PHC, and that we should provide land and asked Council to also write a letter. We did as requested on behalf of Igbogbo community, and Chairman Daini equally wrote a letter through DHL, as prescribed.
"The land I donated was given to me by Odusegun family, being the the family Secretary. Though, I requested for it to build factory in 1983, and they gave me the land with family documents. I also got CofO on the land, but that had hooked at Savannah Bank. My first set of Staff were 24 when I started the nylon factory then," Basorun narrated.
After much said, the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom, thereafter urged the Adeboruwa-in-Council to help encourage the young ones to move closer to him, for collective upliftment of Igbogbo Kingdom. "We should not allow politics to separate us as a community. I will never compromise Igbogbo's interest as far as I'm alive," Basorun stated.
"Very soon, Igbogbo Sports Stadium would be commissioned and we won't allow the name to be changed to Ikorodu Stadium. We started it in 1983, as we did to AUD primary school in 1980. So, we will ensure our efforts are not compromised. Also, we are not leaving any stone unturned on Igbogbo/Bola Ahmed Tinubu/ Igbe Road Construction, efforts were being made in talking to government and we are not going to stop," Basorun added.
